  1. Ok my uncle came from South America and he brought a wedding vhs tape from "Uruguay". All I know is that South America is PAL but a different kind of pal, I think something like PAL-N or something.. Well anyways I wanna convert this tape to NTSC by putting the video on my PC first and authoring it on DVD. The authoring part I'd imagine its not a problem, but getting the PAL-N to my PC is the problem, I got my regular VCR (dont think itll play the vhs), my cap card (which I dunno how that would help), and least but not last I got a near by store that will do it for me? Any Ideas on how I can convert this from my own home.

    P.S. Im in Canada

The only way to get it into your PC is to a VHS VCR or camcorder to play the tape while loading it into your PC.

I have PAL tapes from Europe. I have multisystem VCR. already transfered Tapes from Germany, UK and Spain.

YOu can do it to ways, have a PAL capture card and a PAL VCR then convert the file to NTSC or

YOU can get a Worlwide VCR that digitally converts PAL to NTSC.and a NTSC capture card. I bought the Samsung SV-5000W for $400 US and a Dazzle DVC II PCI for $200 US. The Samsung has SCART hook-up, Euro Coax and RCA Stereo Audio and Composite Video but no S-Video.

The manual for the Samsung SV-5000W claims it will playback and covert all but France SECAM-L. not bad to be limited to just France.

Brazil is PAL-M, some sites claim Brazil uses NTSC and PAL-M
    Argentina, Paraguay, Uraguay, Bolivia PAL-N
Rest of South America is not specifically listed but assumed to be either PAL-M or PAL-N

Not the affordiable answer you sought.
