I'm using a WinTV-Go card, and its great except that I'd like to capture at 720X480 in order to make either higher quality SVCDs or DVDs

My computer is a pentium III, 500 mHZ

Could you recommend a good, inexpensive card that works well with Virtualdub?

    Thanks.

  3. AVerDVD EZmaker PCI capture card and packaged NeoDVD Standard software, $40 from CompUSA (sometimes on sale for $10 after rebate).

I see CompUSA now lists the Aver card at $50 and you can check it out here http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product%5Fcode=296679&csearch=&cmid=&pfp=srch1

  4. i cant comment on the aver card but I have the 2000xp and it caps in 720x480 with great quality. I had a few audio sync problems but that could be machine specific.

  5. It's probably not worth buying another capture card until you can upgrade your PC. You're going to have a difficult time capturing full-frame video with a 500mhz P3 without some kind of hardware encoder. If you're using Win95/98/NT4/2000 (not XP) one thing to do is to buy a used Matrox G400 TV off of eBay. It does mjpeg encoding on the board so you don't need a fast PC. I used to use that board on a 450mhz AMD K6-III and it typically ran only 20-30% CPU utilization capturing full-frame video to mjpeg. It has an excellent TV-out.

I second that. Cheap card usually means the CPU does most of the work.

But, not only you need a fast PC (1500MHz+) but also a big fast disk (80GB+ Ultra DMA 100/133) to be able to sustain the data tansfer rates needed for full D1 resolution capture.

As for cheap cards, I suggest the MSI TV@nywhere.

Why don't you simply resize the video to 720x480 ?
