  1. Hello all,

I have a Sony TRV25 cam and have been playing with MANY capture programs to find the best for me and my setup. My PC seems to be fast enough as I have never dropped frames with any program yet p4 2.26Gig - Ilink connect and Radeon 8500LE video card.

My question is what have others found to produce the best results in terms of capture. I ask cause of the lenghty conversion times I have not been able to compare all programs I have. I have used Sony's Pixella and MovieFactory 2.

I had read virtualdub was very good but I cannot seem to capture anything or even see my video on the capture screen, I also read virtualdub does not work well with Win XP Pro due to the type of drivers used in current PC's an xp.

Conversion for me is with tmpge and I edit with this also as it works frawless and the other programs seem to have a steep learning curve I cant get yet (the editing portion of those programs like Preimere, ulead studio and movie factory).

  2. You don't capture DV, you just copy it from the tape via firewire (iLink). There are no dropped frames cause it just transfering a digital file from one media to another. Just use what ever software came with your firewire card or DVD burner

  3. Try WinDV (shown in the tools section). It is free and it works for me.
I am using MovieBox. I cannot captuer DV with enclosed Studio program.
After I switched to WinDV, it worked great. Low cpu ussage and no drop
    of frames.

  4. Am I to understand that there is NO differance in quality of AVI file when uploading or capturing as the programs call it? In other words it is from the AVI file on such as the encode to mpeg2 process that is solely responsible for poor or great quality SVCD or DVD.
