I'm using a KWorld TV878RF-PRO TV tuner/capture card (great inexpensive card by the way!) and the OEM software package (WinDVR v1.8) to get my VHS tapes on to (S)VCD. The problem I'm encountering is that TMPENC, VCDEasy, BBMPEG, DVD2AVI, even WinProducer (part of the same OEM software package) all have problems with any recording I do in SVCD quality. VCD quality works okay (I usually have to re-encode with TMPEnc for VCDEasy to accept it), but some of my tapes need all the help they can get in maintaining their current quality. VCDEasy reported it as having an improper bitrate, but wasn't very specific with a solution. The rest of the software programs just literally crap out and abruptly shut down (asking me if I want to report the error to Microsoft).
So, my question is: What is the "standard" bitrate for SVCD, VCD, etc., and are the results from my made-in-Taiwan card and accompanying software causing problems because it's using a different standard (maybe Chinese if there is such a standard)?
Here are the default settings that I can choose via the WinDVR setup. Note that I CAN change all of these if they are incorrect or not to the best standards:
NTSC VCD
MPEG-1 format.
Capture size : (352 x 240 )
Video bitrate : 1120 kbit/sec
Audio bitrate : 224 kbit/sec
Total bitrate : 1378 kbit/sec
Total record time : 1642 minutes
File split size : 596 MBytes.
NTSC SVCD
MPEG-2 format.
Capture size : (480 x 480 )
Video bitrate : 4000 kbit/sec
Audio bitrate : 224 kbit/sec
Total bitrate : 4345 kbit/sec
Total record time : 521 minutes
File split size : 596 MBytes.
I do realize that I need to change the file split size regardless.
I also have some problems with the end product from WinProducer (editor/encoder), but assume that it's most likely the same type of issue where the output is not a (S)VCD standard. I usually have re-encode any WinProducer project with TMPEnc in order for VCDEasy to be able to load it.
Thanks for any tips on this.

Check out the WHAT IS section on the left to get the technical specifications for SVCD

Whoops. You know, you try your hardest to search the entire forum, etc., to see if this has already been addressed, but then you miss the obvious like definitions. Sorry, folks. I really do try to use my brain before posting a message.
and whoa...that'd do it. My video bitrate is only 1400 kbit/s over the SVCD standard. Gee...wonder why there's a problem?
I'll post the results here if it does/does not fix the issue.
Thanks again and sorry for not noticing the links down the left side of the screen!__________________________________

Nope. Not the problem. I'll have to keep looking at things, but even though the bitrates were WAY off, it still has the same effect. It might be time to get some new video editing software (something a little more tolerant).
