I am trying to include a DD trailer in the form of a VOB into a DVD project. I am using Ulead DVD MovieFactory2 to import my video clips into my project. Since MF2 won’t recognize VOB’s directly, here is what I did:

    1. I demultiplixed the VOB into an .m2v video and an .ac3 audio file using TMPGEnc.

    2. Since MF2 said it doesn’t support ac3 audio when I remuliplexed it, I used HeadAC3HE to convert the AC3 to a .wav file.

    3. Then I tried to re-multiplex the .m2v and the .wav using TMPGEnc, and got the message, “Multiplexing Linear PCM stream to system stream is not supported.”

Can anybody help me get a multiplexed mpg file from a VOB that MF2 will recognize?

    Thanks in advance!

Do not try to remultiplex. Use TMPGEnc's main program screen. Use the m2v file as video input, and the wave file as audio input.

    TommyKnocker:

Thanks for the reply. I tried what you suggested, and when I select the m2v and wav as input, TMPGEnc (2.511) seems to only want set the output type to [m2v+wav]. When I force it to mpg, it changes it back to [m2v+wav].

When I go ahead and encode this way, it created two files, another m2v and another wav file. When I tried playing the m2v on my system, it had no audio. I looked at the audio setup screens, and all looked OK.

Can you, or anybody, offer any further help.

By the way, is this "reencoding" the MPEG2 stream which might result in lower quality?

    Thanks.

Not exactly. It is what is called demultiplexing, which is separating the audio and the video. Now all you have to do is use the main program window, using the m2v and input video, and the wave file as input audio. Name the output file and select Start. The output file should be what you are looking for.

I guess I wasn't too clear. What I tried *was* in the main program screen, not using the "MPEG Tools." I set the input video to the m2v file, and the input audio to the wav file. I tried setting the output file to an mpg type, but it keeps renaming the output file to a name which seems to maintain the seperate video/audio files. Is there some setting I am possibly missing which would allow it to multiplex my m2v and wav into one file? I must be missing something.

Thanks again...I would really like to get this working.

  6. To the right of the file names of the main program screen, there is a selection for ES (Elementary Stream) or System (Video + Audio). (There are other choices as well).

You need to click the System (Video + Audio).

It will then rename the extension on the output file to mpg.

Thanks for the reply. The choices on the right side which you are referring to are greyed out, so I can choose System (Video + Audio).

    How do I ungrey them?

Also, I tried to load the m2v file on the free TMPGEnc 2.01, and it says that it is unsupported. Is there a free version of TMPGEnc that can read the m2v file?

    Thanks for any additional help.

Ungrey them by selecting Load, choosing the template you need, reselecting you video and audio input files. The greyed out selections should be available then.

In addition, loading the unlock template will do it, but be carefull, as this will unlock all options.

    Tommyknocker and KetchSumAir:

I finally got it working thanks to your help. I appreciate your persistence!

Is there a free version of TMPGEnc which will support m2v files? My evaluation period of TMPGEnc Plus is almost up.

    Thanks again,

    Mike

Just change the vob extension to mpg and use the add video button in MF! Works for me.
Also be sure to check the do not convert compliant files box.
