I'd like to make svcd's capturing at 680x480 with VirtualVCR. (It doesn't give me the option to capture at 480x480). Since I'll be encoding to 480x480, should I make the frame size 480x480 also, or keep it at 640x480?

Also, I just downloaded CCE ( haven't tried it yet). I'd like to not have to spend $50 on the TMPEGnc; does CCE do as good a job?

    Thanks.

680? Why 680? Just curious. You'll get differing opinions on whether to capture at you final desired res or capture at the max you can. THat is a weekly drama here. I kind of fall into the former. I capture at 480x480 with virtualvcr all the time. About CCE, as far as I know, it will set you back $50 too. I tried it and didn't like it....

The 680 was a typo. I meant 640. I'm still confused about the capture and frame rate difference on VirtualVCR. If I'm capturing at full resolution (640x480), would setting the frame rate to 480x480 change the capture rate?

Why do you think its better to capture at 480x480 instead of 640x480? Is it because the encoder can work better (faster), or do you get better SVCDs?

I think you may have a few terms confused george. Frame SIZE relates to 480x480 or 640x480, etc. Frame RATE relates to 29.97 NTSC or 25 (I think) for Pal. Your capture RATE will not change at 480x480 or 640x480. There will still be 29.97 FRAMES in one SECOND. You encoder will take longer converting a 640x480 avi than it will a 480x480 in my experience. That is one of the contributing factors in me capturing at my final desired res (usually 352x240 or 480x480 or 352x480). Better SVCDs from capturing at sizes above 480x480 is subjective and constantly volleyed back and forth here. Hope that helped....
