  1. Hi,

I have a DVD with multiple scenes. I want to rip only part of the DVD, or a specific scene.

Is there anyway to do this without ripping the whole DVD and then Encoding then cutting?

  2. If the DVD has chapters, then SmartRipper can allow you to rip just a single chapter. That is the lowest level ripping that I know of.

  3. You can use DVDshrink.. it is freeware and basically you will open up the DVD with DVDshrink and go to Re-Author mode, drag your main movie title over to the left and then click on the Start/End button and crop the scene that you want. When you click backup then it will rip only what you selected and it will make a complete VOB set that you can play with power DVD or burn to a DVD to play in your player.

You can also rip the chapter in DVDdecrypter. Open the vob in VirtualDub-Mod, set in and out points and save as avi, or frame serve to TMPGenc to make MPEG-2.

How do you frame serve it to TMPGenc?

  6. @dvdragon,

in vdub, file->start frame server->save a .vdr file->open up tmpgenc->load the .vdr file into tmpgenc to frameserve

    leave vdub open.

  7. TMPGEnc has a source range filter. You could frameserve with AviSynth.

Once I pick the area for it to start nothing happens. The dialog screen comes up but nothing is happening.

  9. @dvdragon,

once you load the .vdr as the source video file into tmpgenc, you need to start encoding.

vdub will have an info box that appears when you create the .vdr file. it will tell you the current frames being frameserved into tmpgenc.
