  1. I am from the UK. Having trouble capturing a NTSC video in anything but black and white. Having read other posts it looks like it is my PAL vcr pretending it's an NTSC video and the capture device doesn't fall for it. However, the solutions offered are a problem for me, I have no desire to buy an expensive VCR or an american NTSC video to capture only one video. Have read about standard converters, what are they, how much are they and will they convert NTSC to PAL.

    Any other suggestions?

I am using a Belkin USB for capturing (working well) and ULEAD videostudio 6 DVD (very confusing for a newbie)

Sorry, but to transfer a NTSC format videotape to a computer you will need a NTSC Video machine. A standards converter also requires an output of the correct source format, ie a NTSC video. The VHS machines that are sold in the UK which play a NTSC format tape do so by fooling the TV set with a modified colour signal, which in truth is neither NTSC or Pal. This signal will fool a TV very well (my own Panasonic NVJ35 in point), but the signal is not good enough for a computer , standards converter, or another video.

  3. I hoped that this wouldn't be the case, but thanks anyway.

Your a video tech, are there any cheap VCR's that also play true NTSC pictures?

Sorry, there are no cheap NTSC only videos sold in the UK thet I know of. They sell for $39 in the US in the supermarkets, but there is no demand for them here.
