  1. Okay so I've this movie I downloaded and it's:
    2 parts, each about 112mgs
    352x264
    25fps
    divx encoded.

    I've been using
    TMPGEnc Version 2.513.53.162 and
    Virtual Dub 1.5.4 and
    Nero 5.5.9.14

    for my encoding/burning activities.

Unfortunately, when I open this certain file I get an error, something
like "VideoSourceAVI error: The source image format is not acceptable.
    (error code -2)
Now, I'm not totally inept. I have done some forum searches (unending),
and read through most (all) of the newbie guides. I gather that this is
a resolution issue (no pun intended). I haven't however, found a solution
the technically applies to my situation. There was an earlier post in which
someone had captured there own film/movie and rubbed some divx magic
on it AND THEN came up with the same error in VDub. I don't have the
luxury of being able to go back to the source file, unfortunately.

I'm admittadly a newbie, so be kind and use small words please.

Thanks to any who resolves to solve my resolution dissolution.

you need to get gspot from the left in tools section it will tell you what you need to open the file. resolution is not the problem, youoneed a codec for the file.
just for advice the new tmpgenc is out and results are clearer than any previous version
and newer versions of nero are out.

  3. Nope, that's not it - I've both GSpot and the Codecs I need, but thanks
for the advice regarding the new TMPGenc

  4. try downloading the smr codec.
it'll show up as being divx, but its a hacked form of divx.

if that doesnt work, try downloading virtualdub 1.3 and opening it in that, then rewriting the avi header. i had a error -something once after i used that fourCC changer from xvid and changed an xvid's header to divx
    poop.

  5. So I got the SMR Codec, no luck. Then I got VDub 1.3 and I now receive
a similiar, if not reiterated error, " Bad Format (-2)"

    Any more ideas? Please?

Oh, by the way I also got the newer version of TMPGenc, although I've
been having problems with that also - but that another story...

  6. Should I post this on the advanced conversion forum? Does anyone have any other suggestions?
