Installed FAVC ,.net2.0, Avisynthv2.57 and FAVC worked great for 2 days.
    Then recieved an error code:

FAVC is unable to process the following files:
    avi
Generally this problem occurs when the correct version of Avisynth is not
    installed (v2.56a or Greater),
or the corresponding codec is not installed.
Alternative approaches include creating an Avisynth script yourself and opening
    it in FAVC,
or frameserving from VirtualDub to FAVC.

System Windows Vista, intel quad6600 2gb ram. Not sure what happened. No codec changes.I uninstalled Favc ,Avisynth and restored my system to before the install.

Fresh installed all again still with same error.

Copied avi to another box Windows Vista duo core which I installed FAVC on the same day as the first machine and it works great still.

Pulling hair out as we speak

  2. 64-bit Vista or 32-bit? You need 64-bit version of avisynth for 64-bit OS

In Vista, you might have to run as administrator, and disable driver signing.

The other possibility is that particular .avi file is giving you problems: either you don't have the correct codecs/splitters or the file is corrupt. Use mediainfo to determine what audio & video codecs are being used.

  4. Hi folks,

Sorry about posting on a 6 month old thread ... but is right along this original Posting ...

I am running Vista Home Premium 64-bit. And I am using FAVC 1.07 Zipped format (Portabelish).
I just installed AviSynth 2.5.8RC4a ... and I know the system already has the .NET Framework on it ... since it alerted me when I tried installing the "NetFx64" which is 64-bit .NET Framework.

But I keep getting an Error Code as follow "An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007000B)."

Now my laptop is a Virgin laptop ... meaning I have no Codecs loaded on it yet ... but I thought FAVC has all needed Codecs and Programs conatained within itself.

    Any Help would be appreciated.

BTW, is there another Freeware besides FAVC available to Convert AVI or MPG to DVD?

    Thanks,

    G!

Are you using FAVC 64b version ?

    http://favcfavc.googlepages.com/

Most of the 32b .Net applications are incompatible with 64b systems due to the way they are compiled and the use of the Framework.

    Use 64b version of FAVC

  6. Hi Delta2,

    THANKS for responding.

Unfortuantely my new laptop came with Vista Home Premium X64 ... so I am stuck with it.

I tried FAVC1.07 64-bit ... and no go. Tried FAVC1.06 X64 ... the program starts and the DOS Box "cmd.exe" pops up but it just sits there ... now I am not as patient as "drz400" ... so I have been Cancelling it and shutting the program ... may be I need to do the 5 minute wait that drz400 speaks of. But that is weird!?!?

Also, I posted my Q on Doom9 where Mr_Odwin, the Author hangs out and he suggested for me to Install CODECS ... but did not tell me WHICH CODECS PACK.

Q1: Can anyone suggest a CODEC SPACK that is SAFE and Suitable for VISTA 64-bit?

Q2: Should I switch to Vista 32-bit ... would that be more compatible?

I have installed AviSynth 2.58. I tried installing _NET 64-bit ... and Vista tells me that the software already exists! I suppose Microsoft already has included that under Vista SP1. Because I see some of my programs loading under Windows and some under Windows (x86) ... so

Can anyone else provide any other input!?!?

    THANKS,

    G!

Some processes can be waiting for CPU response, that's not weird if you use a slow machine or if you are processing Huge Files such Blu-ray rips

I'm more inclined to Windows Vista compatibility with some issue that FAVC wants to process

don't use codec packs, just install codecs as you need

FAVC 64b is just fine for 64 bit systems

You can also try a full 64 bit version of another freeware program

    http://avi2iso.planetaclix.pt/avi2iso64.rar

it comes with essential codecs that you should install

Try it, and if it doesn't work at least there will be more clues

  8. Hi Delta2,

Thanks for help again. Delta I have couple of Q's ...

Q1: Sometimes a program comes available as ".exe" and "Zip" ... which one is better to Opt for?

I tend to go with the Zipped Version since it does not install anything on your laptop and therefore "might" not mess your computer too much! I am not sure if my assumption is correct. So, may be you can shed a light on my assumption!!!

Q2: When Mr_Odwin (FAVC Author) says install Codecs ... how do you know which codecs do you need?
I suppose the Standard ones ... Freeware XviD Kopei and DivX 5.21 (or someting like that) ... right!?!?

I will try the AVI2ISO X64 version and post back. BTW, the download sites for this software is so darn SLOW!

    Thanks,

    G!

It is only a matter of packing the program, to compress.

ZIP files is from WinZip and RAR from WinRAR, the second gives a better compression ratio and it is wide use by...well...illegal stuff. EXE can be either a uncompressed file - just an executable ready to run -, or a self-extract compression file made by WinZip or WinRar for example

There is no differences, just the compression methods are different

WinRar can handle either RAR or ZIP, and for me is better

Q2: When Mr_Odwin (FAVC Author) says install Codecs ... how do you know which codecs do you need?
To take it simple, all free software are based on AVISynth, they can differ on the audio methods or video methods, but almost all processes needs AVISynth

So keep the temporaries, you will find AVS files in your working folder, you should be able to play them in Windows Media Player

If you don't...then probably is codec problems

I suppose the Standard ones ... Freeware XviD Kopei and DivX 5.21 (or someting like that) ... right!?!?
Well, yes, I use this :

That's a .NET based program, full 64 bits

  10. Hi Delta2,

    1) I think I did not explain myself correctly on .EXE and ZIPPED files ... I understand the .exe and zip format ... what I was referring to was the fact that some programs ... for example "VLC Media Player" is available

    A) To install it on your system OR
    B) Run it from a Folder named "VLC 0.8.6i" without Installing it ... since it is a Portable Application.

So my question is ... Q: Is it better to run it in Portabelish Format so Nothing is installed on my computer and my Registry is not changed!

    Thanks,

    G!
