What kind of hardware did you previously use and which OS?
Are you using the same DVD to convert?

Quick rip from the RICOH site:

How can I check the DMA setting?
    [Windows 9x / Me]
Go to Control Panels > System > Device Manager > CD-ROM.
Double click on the CD-ROM to show your drive.
Double click on the RICOH drive and select Settings tab.

    [Windows NT4 / 2000]
Go to Control Panels > System > Hardware tab.
    Click Device Manager.
Double click IDE ATA/ATAPI controller, which will shows IDE controller.
Select either Primary or Secondary IDE Controller, a part of the channel connected with the drive.
    Select Advanced Settings tab.

    [Windows XP]
My Computer > Right botton click to Properties > Hardware tab.
Click on Device Manager > IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.
Select either Primary or Secondary IDE channel, a part of the channel connected with the drive.
    Select Advanced Settings tab.

When the DMA option does not appear on the setting, check the Utilities provided by the HD controller. The below instruction is about Intel Application Accelerator for instance.

  7. Did you install a newer version of DVD2One on your new PC? The newer DVD2One is a lot slower cause it pre-scans the DVD more, to give you a better quality result.

there is a big difference between a Pentium 3 machine and a Pentium 4 3.0GHz machine

if you really do have the latest CPU with HyperThreading do you have it enabled in your system BIOS? and what motherboard are you running it on? also what type of system RAM do you have?

  9. a lot of this is over my head. I had the latest dvd2one prior that pre-scanned and it didnt take nearly this long. I have 512 mb ram...is there no logical explination for this?

if you have no further information about your system configuration there is NO WAY we can help you.

the explination lies in your system. we need more information about what you changed for us to help

    give us a break

  11. Remove any large files you do not need on the hard drive that you have the ripped DVD on. Then defrag the hard drive. This can make a huge difference. I also had a slow down issue when my drive that had the OS and DVD2One on it was NTFS, while the drive with the ripped DVD was FAT32.

  12. As you had a P3 before and now a P4 i'm taking a wild stab in the dark by saying you have a new mobo as i have stated before have you checked whether dma is enabled on your hard drive (ren & stimpy was good enough to include instructions on how to do this with whatever OS you may have). When i bought my new pc i went from a duron 950mhz to a p4 2.4ghz and encoding avi's to mpg and also dvd2one were all slower on the new machine until i enabled dma - it kept reverting to pio mode and wouldn't stay on dma so i re-installed the mobo drivers and it worked without a problem. encoding avi's to the dvd template is now done in almost realtime and dvd2one takes about 15mins to work its magic. Give the dma thing a try and let us know

  13. I appreciate the help so far. Okay, I have 2 harddrives. My second, where I store the files to encode have the DMA enabled. However, my primary device (c: drive) says: device 0: dma enabled, device 1: PIO mode...and I cant changed it, but I assumed it didnt matter since my files are not on the c: drive. Sorry if i cant be more informative. but i have a dell 8300 series if that helps any, thanks again for the help so far!
