    i put both parts 1 and 2 of the movie on one CDR that amounts to 776mb in VCD mode in Nero. Will it play on the DVD still?

    It should do if you are using 800MB CDRs. Why dont you just burn it to find out - CDRs are only worth as much as chocolate bars. Unless you like chocolate bars a lot, in that case I would rather spend the money on a couple of Milkybars...
    Seriously though, I split my mpegs up into 3 or 4 parts for a VCD film and then burn it, so I can have 'chapters'. Ive burnt more than 776MB without creating coasters.
