The only way I know of is to place a macrovision defeat tool between the VHS and the e30. I picked up a while ago at bestbuy for $30, but it only does composite.

  3. You should check out a TBC. TBC = Time Base Corrector. This will solve a variety of problems in transfering from VHS. It solves the Macrovision problem that you are seeing but will also help clean up old tapes that may not be in the best condition. I use a Datavideo TBC-1000 and it has been great at helping me to capture some material from old (non-macrovision) VHS tapes that were in very bad condition. Since it replaces all of the sync signals, macrovision is disabled as a by-product of the TBC's function. There are of course cheaper Macrovision disabling devices but they are essentially one-trick ponies.

If money is no object there are more expensive units that allow for color correction and a variety of tweaking capabilities.

  4. I tried to backup a copyprotected VHS tape onto Panasonic DMR-HS2 using SIMA Pro-Series Color Corrector Model SCC, and it still wouldn't copy! So I'm guessing SIMA would not be a good choice to try.

I use the Sima CopyMaster and it apparently eliminates Macrovison and cleans up the signal a little also. It is around $50 on Ebay.
