Hi, I'm new to the site, and to video conversion. I saw most of the threads regarding VHS to DVD are old, like from 2003.
I got a EasyCap device which works well, but some of our old "home grown" tapes play well from VCR to TV, but not thru the device to the computer, (looks mostly like the tracking is off). Googling tells me it's probably the Mvision problem, and I don't have the equipment to change that.
Is there anything new, am I missing something?
Would appreciate a point in the right direction. Thanks...

A homemade VHS tape is not going to have macrovision on it. If that type of tape is causing a problem, it could be the tracking. It could also be the VCR that is being used is not up to the task either because the tape is getting old or the VCR used to make the tape did not make the tracks in the same way as the VCR being used is trying to read the tape. If the TV can make the tape look OK, then possibly the EasyCap device is too picky and a "stabilizer" may help. Google for a time based correction device. Some VHS decks have a TBC built in, so try a VCR that has that feature.
