    Ahhh the age old question

    really its user specific

and its based on what you want............. Cheap $$, High speed media, printable tops, cases etc etc etc

    personally, I go for TDK 2x ( http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=10318753&loc=101) 10 disks are 30 dollars so thats 3/disk

Never ever had a problem, they burn at 2x and thats great for me!

But you may say JEEZE! 3/disk, i want like $.80 a disk.
Then go with something like ( http://www.meritline.com/dvdprobul47d.html) this
its being debated how good of a disk these really are, but I also stock up on these when I 1x speed is acceptable. They are decent, and ive personally never had a problem with them in over 1 year of burning this brand.

But again, its totally up to you. I say, pick the max you will spend per disk and go from there

    other good brands are :
Verbatim, Ritek, TDK, and Imation. Ive even heard good reports on Taiyo-Yuden, but never tried them myself.

    enjoy

  5. Well, I believe that you get what you pay for. But I always look for sales. Have used the following brands successfully in my Sony 500ulx: Fuji, Phillips, Sony and Verbatim, in 2.4x or 4x. Never paid more than 1.50 each at Best Buy, Office Max or Office Depot on sale.

I have never tried el cheapo brands in the Sony, but, hey, who needs the aggravation!

  7. i've used princos.

i heard they rot in a month or so.

but the dvd-r movies i made on princos still plays perfect.

    they are 2 months old.

my friends princo dvd-r backups is about 4 months old. he says they still play fine.

so far base on my personal experience, princo is a good deal.

the next best thing is ritek.

a lot of people say princo is the worst.

    ritek is a little better

then verbatim is better than ritek

TDK is up there with ritek.

    thats just my opinon.

i've use only princo and verbatim.

I have not had any problems with the new Verbatim or imation dvd+rs. I think it has a lot to do with your writer and standalone player.

  10. I would listen to TXPharaoh, he really knows what he's talking about.
Ritek branded media can be had surprisingly cheap. At www.allmediaoutlet.com you can get 1x branded Riteks in a pancake box of 100 for $1.20 each. Catalog number ITEM- NO:
    P-DVD-R-R100LG.
Whatever you do, DON'T used hacked firmware to burn beyond the rated speed of the media. This is what causes most of the problems with reported "bad" media. If you used hacked firmware to burn 1x-rated media at 2x, you're just asking for trouble. Mind you, it _might_ work -- but you're playing with fire. If you care about your data, it's just not worth the risk of seeing all your discs go bad.
