Decided to check out the latest DVDFab tonight, but it seems to just crash on my machine. All other programs work fine... is this just me? It actually starts to process the DVD then crashes somewhere along the way.

DVDFab crashes when I do a full DVD copy of The Matrix.
What DVD are you trying to copy?
Looks like there are certain types of DVDs that DVDFab cannot process correctly. I would say any type of disc that is esoteric in its functionality i.e. anything that pushes the DVD specification and is not a plain vanilla DVD.
Apart from that, DVDFab in principle is a great idea. But it needs some more work. What it is trying to do is certainly not easy, so I take my hat off to the author. -
I'm trying to backup my copy of Babylon 5 season 1, was gonna try out its split ability. OH well I'll stick with DVDshrink for it for now.
-
DVDFab does not do Episodedisc, but is in the works...

Hi all !
I'm currently not at home (vacation) .. hehe.
I still don't understand the problems with matrix.
(Are we both talking about matrix part I ??)
I tried this as PAL version .... no problems.
However, when I'm at home again ... I'll go back to work at DVDFab !

I've never been able to get DVDFab 1.3 to run -- it always crashes, no matter what disks I've tried it on (no episode disks -- just plain old NTSC disks that DVDDecrypter or DVDShrink handle just fine).
XP Pro, 1 gig RAM, 2.4 processor -- I dunno, I kind of gave up on it (might try it again if there's a new version) and went back to using DVDXCopy on my DVD9 movies."Like a knife, he cuts through life, like every day's his last" -- Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang -
Yes, that reminds me -- I should clarify. I'm trying to split disks, and as Deerchaser says, I never get passed the split screen on any disk I try.
I'm guessing either people aren't trying to split disks, or not NTSC disks, or some other mojo I don't understand. It is interesting that I've had no trouble using DVDXCopy to do this on the same disks, though."Like a knife, he cuts through life, like every day's his last" -- Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang -

Hi DVDToolBox,
Nice to know you check out the forums. The problem with DVDFab 1.52 is when it attempts to do a full disc copy of "The Matrix" (NTSC version). The program crashes after it has done the split. Several other people have experienced the same problem. I'm assuming it's the same NTSC version.
Also, a full disc copy of "X-Men" (NTSC) does not allow the second disc to be played. IFOEdit's DVD player flags it as a "navigational error". Note: This disc does utilize extended branching.
Maybe you can look into these issues?
Cheers. -

Done two sucessful splits with Fab on Win2k
both were NTSC- Goldfinger and Die Another Day
Love that "put in disc two screen" -
I agree about the put in disc 2 screen being great, its what makes it a shame that it doesn't work with episode disc. Oh well maybe someday I'll convice the author of DVDshrink to add something like that that can be manually inserted, that would cover everything well also.

It crashed a lot tonight. Attempted to backup Animatrix(a tough DVD to backup, regardless) with the 1.3 edition, and it quickly crashed. It did the same with Cowboy Bebop: the movie. DVD shrink, and DVD2One with Nero did decent jobs backing both those up. DVDFab looks like it has a lot of potential, but the current version has it's bugs. I encourage the author to keep developing it. Maybe future versions will be a killer app. But until then....I'm sticking to what works best.
-
Ya'll have me confused. The DVDFab I have is version 0.15.1 at it hasn't crashed neither time I've tested it. The latest version is 0.15.2 which I haven't tried yet. I haven't used the copy on the fly patch yet either. But why do ya'll keep calling it DVDFab 1.3?
-
DVDFAB 0.16.0 is out....all those who had problems can you give it a hurl...err hmm I mean whirl and see if it doesn't work now. I'll try it on Matrix when I get home.

Complete DVD: Changed some bug in IFO-Files on disc 2 -
Hey,
I like dvdfab and all but if I try to split whole disc, so that I retain all the menus and extras, I cant choose where I want it to be split. This is a real pain cuz then I have to goto the get movie only option and split it that way.
THen I replace the file gotten in the split whole disc option with the ones that I just got for the split movie only option. My problem is now I dont have the "next disk" screen.
What can I do? Is there any way to choose the split point when I am splitting entire disc? So confused..... -
@wizardkt How is your post related to this thread?
Title of this thread is:
Does DVDFaB crash for you?
Does DVDFaB crash for you?
Does DVDFaB crash for you?
Does DVDFaB crash for you?
I answered your double post in another thread. -
I made a lot of copies so far ... but DVDFab didn't crash !
Maybe you could test 0.16.0. Please do always remember:
Rip with DVDDecrypter in File-Mode.
The "Hack" and Daemon-Tools also works.
Maybe we can find that error ...
(Only a dead error is a good error)
If it ain't the prompt it ain't shit -
The last DVDFab crashes on me everytime I try to copy the complete Godfather (DVD-9).
I'm going to back off to a previous version and try it. -

I had my DVDFab 0.15.3, 0.16.0, 0.16.1 crashed very much at the same point (2nd step of "Processing Files") while splitting into 2 disks with HarryPotter I DVD. Ripped in file mode with DVDDecrypter.
-
Well I gave up on it. I'll keep reading and try it again when all the bugs are gone..
-
Yeah, that's my experience as well -- not sure if it's my OS (XP Pro) or what, but Mr. Bass seems to have success where I have none.
I'll wait for the next version and give it a shot. Glad it's working for some, though (and equally glad that DVDXCopy works for me in these split disk scenerios)."Like a knife, he cuts through life, like every day's his last" -- Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang -
0.17.0 works 100% for me...use dvdfab hack (shh don't tell anyone) and did 'Copy Complete DVD' Matrix NTSC R1 DVD. All previous version of DVDFab would choke on the Matrix. I'm not saying this fixes all problems for all dvds but I'm sure it fixed quite a few. Yes Rabbit feature still works too.
-
I may be late in this thread, but I used to crash until I reinstalled and checked the "include Start Menu/Shorcut" when prompted. But then again I've only started using the program this week.
-
I was not successful with DVDFab 0.17.0. tried both Harrypotter 1(wide-screen) and foreign tv-episodes.
@mrbass
Matrix NTSC R1 -
yes my Matrix copy is widescreen.
Oh well...DVDFab isn't perfect but from what I heard is neither is DVDXCopy. -
DVDXCopy isn't perfect, but it's never crashed on me and never failed on any disk I've tried (with the exception of episode disks -- those I have to do with DVDShrink). I have a lot of disks in my collection -- haven't backed them all up yet, but done at least 50 so far without failure -- and DVDFab wouldn't even do one of them (I didn't try it on all 50 -- only on about four or five).
So... yes, both programs have flaws (I really wish I could change the "Insert Disk 2 screen". Sigh) but for many of us DVDFab isn't even an option. Hopefully some day."Like a knife, he cuts through life, like every day's his last" -- Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang -
