  1. Hi,
Got my Kiss DP-450 DVD player to play Divx directly. Great.
The movies are played on a regular TV (no widescreen), thus showing 2 black horizontal bands.
I guess this is due to the resolution. How many horizontal and vertical lines do I need to avoid those lines ? Is there a way to reformat existing Divx files using virtualdub ? Easy ? Please let me know how. Thank you for your answers, it is appreciated.

what do you mean? are you trying to turn a widescreen movie into a pan & scan?
    His name was MackemX

What kind of a man are you? The guy is unconscious in a coma and you don't have the guts to kiss his girlfriend?

  3. I guess that is what it is. I do want to get rid of these black bands.
Is it the resolution that needs to be altered to eg 720*304 or 576*320 ???
    Thank you.

  5. Yep- you're way lucky it plays divx!

There is no good way to get rid of the black bars that I know of. You basically have two choices- a. squish the picture via resizing (bad option- everything will look 'skinny'); b. crop the picture - thus losing part of the image (i.e., pan and scan, which I hate. In some movies, it really jams up the director's presentation ('The Graduate' is a good example)).

If it were me, I'd leave things the way they are.

  6. Yeah, rob's right. Just wait until HDTV is mainstream, then go buy a wiescreen TV, and those black bars will either disappear or be half as thick.
