  1. Hey Guys

Recently I bought a Philips DVP5996/96 & upgraded with vb6rocod's DVP5996k firmware http://vb6rocod.euracks.com/dvp5996k_51.php. Everything looked stunning at once except for the subtitles background color! I cannot manage to set it to transparent. It stays Yellow whatever I do. I only have the option to change the font color between Yellow & White. I posted the same question at vb6rocod's forum & he suggested me to patch the firmware with a new piece of code he provided me. http://vb6rocod.euracks.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=14#p310

The big question is "How do I do it?" I am quite confused as to how can I patch the current firmware with the code he gave to me? Apparently once I patch the current vb6rocod's DVP5996K firmware, I can get the transparent background for the subtitles.

Before giving your valuable steps to resolution, let me clarify once again that I do not see any place in the Menu where I can change the subtitle background color. I "want to keep" the vb6rocod's firmware rather than the original one. Please help me out!!!

    Thanks in advance!

This is exactly the question I would like to know the answer.
    The thing you are looking for is in: Code part / 8032 / Page 2 / OSD_SetupMenu / Root 1 (0)
I was modifying and replacing fonts and then trying to change the name of the font from ''Large'' to ''Smaller'' so I saved the file from this dir to text and modified it. Then I couldn't put this text back in the file. The replace function is grayed out. When I asked vb6rocod he said it's best not to touch this things; I have freaked out and let it be. I don't want to make something it could not be repaired; if you know what I mean. So instead I have replaced all fonts and now the size of each font correspond to the name of the font.

I can see where you suppose to put the new code in but I don't know how because all ''Replace'' functions are grayed out. Guess vb6rocod is the only person who can help you.

  3. What language do you have in OSD language? DVP5996 is a variant from 5990/37 (like 5990K_55 or 5996K_51) , only few bytes from end are changed. So tell me what language do you have, or best, open firmware in MTKRemaker --->>> Page2 --->>> OSD_Setup_Menu ---->>> Root 1(6). I need to know what Root do you use. For subtitles (if you don't use CP 1252), make 4 fonts and I will help you.

I use English as my default language & that is enough. So, I think I should change the code on "Root 1(0)". Am I right?

    @giltic

You need to enable Expert mode in MTKRemaker & as vb6rocod suggested, it might really damage your player. If you are ready you may enable the expert mode this way.

I am very desperate to get your help. Can you please help me by just spending a few minutes to guide me step-by-step on how to replace the Root 1(0) from your firmware? I need your help as I am very uncomfortable with the current firmware you uploaded for DVP5996.

And one more question! Can I try upgrading 5996 with your firmware for 5990?

    Thanks

Once again you rock!!!! Awesome knowledge in this stuff. Absolutely amazing.

But I think I found out the problem here. See the 8,9,10,11 options below? None of it is present in Root 1, Root 2, Root 3, Root 4, Root 5, Root 6 in the following PHILIPS LOGO/STAR LOGO firmware at http://vb6rocod.euracks.com/dvp5996k_51.php .

The "Original version" ]http://rapidshare.de/files/45242107/DVP5996K_51_vb6_v32.rar.html is good & has no problem. The STAR LOGO version http://vb6rocod.euracks.com/download.php?f..._51_vb6_v32.rar & the PHILIPS LOGO version http://vb6rocod.euracks.com/download.php?f...hilips_Logo.rar are defective. I downloaded these versions & that is the reason why I had the problem I stated.

So, I guess that is the reason I am unable to see the following options in the General Setup menu.
    8. No Pic. | Vertical | Vertical
    9. No Pic. | Text Color | Text Color
    10. No Pic. | Background Color | Background Color
    11. No Pic. | Outline Color | Outline Color
    12. No Pic. | Subtitles Loading | Subtitles Loading

It is better if you can remove the PHILIPS LOGO/STAR LOGO versions from your site. They are not correct. If you doubt it, check it for yourself by opening both the PHILIPS LOGO/START LOGO firmware in MTKRenamer & see under all the Roots'. You would not find the above five menus in them. I am not sure what went wrong but that is the fact. You will understand what I'm trying to say.

The issue has been resolved. Thanks for everyone who participated in this actively.
