  1. ok.. ill probably get flamed (tried searching the forums EXTENSIVELY but i couldnt find an answer) but here i go.

Ive got an Xvid that is NTSC Film 23 frames per second (or so virtual dub tells me) and i wish to convert it to a SVCD.

    My process of conversion goes:

    1. Extracted audio at 41khertz
    2. Load project wizard in TMPG
    3. Choose NTSC filem SVCD from template menu (1st page of wizard)
    4. Select audio Video
    5. Select source range etc etc

    OK..
    NOW my problem...

when i create a small sample i get the audio and video out of sync.. EVERY TIME!!

ok.. so far i tried the remedies...

Converting Video seperatley to NTSC film SVCD (in tmpgenc) THEN reloading the video along with audio (using tmpgenc) and trying to add them together again but i still get the audio sync problem..

Then .. just now as i was carefully looking through the Wizard as i highlighted the NTSC film template it says encoding is done at 29 FPS !!! for NTSC Film for SVCD?!?

    is this true?

SO.. i thoguht.. thats the reason for the out of sync audio..

Logically the step to see if this is the problem is to make a SVCD sample with PAL (25 FPS) and if it is the problem then the audio sync should be better...

AND IT IS!! (its in sync..I THINK)

is this the problem ive got or have i diagnosed it wrong?

If i keep encoding (the whole movie) at 25 fps with the audio will the sync gap increase as the movie progresses as the audio moves faster (less frames) than the video or will it be ok?

what do i need to do to fix this problem??

i know the simple solution is to make a VCD as it allows 23 fps but i wanna retain the dvd quality..

should i just keep going with pal or do i need to do something else?

  2. Download GSPOT to get an accurate description of the file.

When you extract the audio ,are you saving it as an uncompressed WAV (usually about 700mb-1gb in size for average film)?

Opinions vary ,but I always feed XVID directly into TMPGE without extracting audio (I do that with DIVX only)...works every time for me.
