  1. I've been looking for a PCI capture card, preferably under $100.
I have seen 'em under $100 with s-video, but not with stereo inputs.
    Recommendations?

BTW Vid card Radeon 9700 Pro.

    TIA

  2. I found an AverTV Studio, about $70. I'm just a newb, we are all newbs some point, but thanks for all the replies

The Capture Card feature area doesn't have any options to search for s-video or stereo. BTW why in the hell are stereo inputs a feature typically found on only the expensive cards?

No capture card has stereo inputs, or any audio inputs for that matter. All the audio connections go to your sound card. The "more expensive cards" as you put it simply have loop throughs to connect to your sound card eg. my AIW 8500 (but that's AGP so no use to you), so you can't hear the source unless you are capturing, otherwise you have to turn the "line in" volume down.

Yea... my vote is for any decent quality bt878 card ( there are dozens ).

Just make sure that the TV tuner can do stereo. As people have stated they don't have stereo in, all the sound goes through your sound card, but they still need to decode stereo signals from the tuner. Some good examples are the WinTV series, and the AverTV. Don't byt ATI TV Wonder since they have always managed to take good chips and make then incompatible with everything, and then release crappy drivers for them.

Check the list of capture cards to the left <----

    Cheers,
    Eric

PVR-250 by Hauppauge has audio inputs. Its a stereo mini jack and I often run my VCRs stereo audio output directly into the card. Works fine for stereo audio.

  6. The AverTV Studio just came in
There is a Conexant Fusion 878A chip on the board so it looks like it is a bt878 chip. It has stereo within it's tuner, and has stereo input as well. I don't have a lot of tapes to capture, but what I have I'd rather keep stereo.

    Good luck....

Give yourself plenty of time to set up the software. Don't expect excellent quality overnight.
