I just got a Sony DRU-510a and I am having a fairly wierd problem. The drive installed fine, but most burning programs don't see it (or at least, don't recognize it as a burner). Nero sees the drive and the Nero InfoTool ID's it as a DVDRW, but Nero won't let me choose it as a burner. I don't think it's the actual unit, becuase when i ordered it I was accidentaly sent the external version, and it had the same problem (At first I was just going to keep the external version, but I thought the fact it was external was causing this compatibility problem)
The only software I have gotten to work is the included RecordNow DX.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

I have the sony 510a and I read on here that Nero is not compatible with that drive.

Reading the comments for the drive (https://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters.php?DVDnameid=102&Search=Search&list=0) I see several people stating they have used Nero to burn discs with this drive. Also, it's not just Nero... it's everything I've tried except RecordNowDX.

This is just a guess, but maybe a serial number issue; i.e. Nero came bundled with another manufacturer's drive and the serial isn't valid for the Sony drive.
That's only a guess; I doubt it's the case, but it should at least be checked.

The only thing that works is window's drag and drop for CD (I haven't tried that for DVD, does it even do DVD?) and RecordNow DX.
The rest don't recognize it as a DVD recorder. -
what version you using?
ive heard of windows burning software conflicting sometimes with the other apps, try disabling the windows burning service -
If Nero came bundled with your old CD burner, it will only work with that unit. If you replaced the drive with your new dru510a, Nero won't recognize it. You need the retail version of Nero rather then the ones that come bundled with burners.
Since you said nothing works then maybe you have some other problem. =/

Well, I got Nero to work. I just uninstalled it and then re downloaded it off their site and installed that, it works great now. Other software still doesn't work... but I don't really care since Nero is working.
Thanks guys! -
i dunno how true that is, im using a bundled version of nero which i used to install as a base (came with my cd burner) and then just updated it to the newer version and it works fine.

Perhaps the manufacturer of your bundle opted to include the full universal version of Nero. That isn't always the case.
