  1. I downloaded a video file in .bin format. It was an SVCD that I intended to play on my Sony DVP-NS305. I burned it but I got the message 'Cannot play this disc'. So I did the header trick. I extracted the mpeg (with IsoBuster). I used TMPGEnc to change the header to MPEG-1 Video-CD (non-standard). I then used VCDEasy to create a .bin (and .cue) file out of the new mpeg (VideoCD type: VCD 2.0). I burned it (with Nero) and it played fine in my DVD player. Or at least the video seemed fine. But then I had audio problems. I could still watch the film with the audio in its current state, it's not disastrous and I can still watch. But it's not right. It's not all clean, there's too much noise in the background and it leaves the audio a little fuzzy. Why?

I played the original and new .bin files on my computer (mounting to a virtual drive and using a software DVD player) and they both played fine, with perfect sound. The same goes for both the mpeg files (in any media player), no problems with either video or audio. But when it's burnt to CD and I put it in my player, all of a sudden I have this audio problem.

Why does this happen? How can I fix it?

  2. check your dvd player here: https://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers

and see if it supports SVCDs (and the VCD header trick)

it could just be your player doesn't like SVCDs with or without the VCD header trick.

also, how fast are you burning the CD-Rs...try to limit to 4X.

  3. Yes it supports VCD. It also supports SVCD (with the header trick).

Like I said, it plays the files, it's just the audio that's causing a problem. Don't see why it should though. It is an SVCD with a different header but even so the audio is the same as VCD audio and I've never had any problems with that before. Burning speed isn't a problem either. I've tried different speeds. I don't see how it could be a problem with burning though, as the SVCD will play fine on my pc.

alot of problems will arise from playing in the standalone dvd player and not show up at all when play in the PC. so, just because a problem doesn't show up while playing on the PC doesn't mean it couldn't be a burning problem..in fact, that's why i thought it was a burning problem. computer drives seem to handle discs burned faster better than standalone machines... hence, have you tried burning no faster than 4X?

  5. did you download the .cue also? SVCDS are multi mode burned discs, so if all you have is the bin, it will just do a single mode and not work.

Mount the bin file again and extract the mpeg, but not do the header trick, just use VCDeasy to create a new bin and cue, id also suggest not using nero.

  6. As I said, I've tried different speeds. Even as low as 2x. So I don't think burning is the problem, or rather not the speed of the burning anyway.

The thing is the video plays fine, no problems at all. And the video is actually SVCD. The audio is just regular VCD type audio. If there was a problem with the file I would have expected it with the video but no problems there. So I'm really a bit lost as to what to try next...

  7. @Ejoc,
Got the .cue as well. So should I still try and use VCDEasy to create new .bin and .cue files?

Why do you think I should not use the header trick?

And do you think nero might be a problem then?

  8. mis read your post, I thought your player would support SVCDs, I missed the "with header trick"

I dont use nero, and hear about people having problems with nero almost every day.

I suggested not using the header trick because I thought your player would play an SVCD.

remuxing the mpeg for the header trick souldnt change your audio and introduce distortion.

I've converted SVCDs to VCDs w/ header trick, and I did it basicly the same way you tried, with the differences being I did the multiplex off the SVCD and burned w/ VCDEasy, couldnt tell any difference between the movie as a SVCD or VCD w/ header trick.
