For those possibilty interested in the upcoming Adobe Encore authoring program, I'd like to point out their Adobe Video collection is on sale until September 30th (hmm, I'm sounding like a salesperson -- or at least a shill. But I did think it was a good deal for me, and perhaps others will be interested).
You get Adobe Encore (natch) as well as Premiere Pro (the new version of Premiere), After Effects 6.0 (new version of AE) and some other piece of software I never heard of (Audition?), all for $800 (normally priced at $1K).
Now, this ain't a great deal if all you're interested in is Encore, but if you don't have either AE or Premiere it's a steal, as any two of those combined would be a LOT more. Even if you have both of them, upgrading to the latest versions would cost you over $400, which would bring the price of Encore down to $400.
I love AE and it's a perfect combination for use with Encore and generating motion menus. I don't know what's going to be new in Premiere, but they say it's completely redesigned so it might well be worth the upgrade. I love Adobe software anyway, so this is one offer I won't pass up.

Yes, I should have pointed out that AE is the standard edition only. But... you can then turn around and upgrade to the pro bundle for $500 more (which I'm going to do -- we need another seat of AE and this whole thing works out well for us).
Now, you can also get the Pro Video Collection -- which, if you don't already own Photoshop, is an even better deal. $1500 for Encore, Premiere, Pro After Effects and Photoshop. But we have lots of seats of PS, so we'll save $200 by going the other route.
I'm really excited about all this -- I should mention that most of the software won't be released for about another month. But the good news is you don't have to preorder, since the offer is good until September 30th (so you can actually order when the software is out and available)."Like a knife, he cuts through life, like every day's his last" -- Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang -
Oh, and thanks BJ_M for the links to the Premiere reviews. Now this *really* gets me excited -- sounds like Premiere Pro will be wonderful.
And, in a side note, it's also nice to hear confirmed in one of the reviews what I've always thought: that XP is a much better media OS than Win2K. I suspect some folks will find this a showstopper (having to run XP) while others will be brought into running the best OS ever just to run these apps.
Sigh. So much software, so little time..."Like a knife, he cuts through life, like every day's his last" -- Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang -
OMG!
After reading this, I went to Adobe's site to check out the deals.
Do you know, that odd new application "Audition" is Cool Edit Pro???
They got the rights to it, or bought the property. Now, they've started doing the Adobe revamping, making it natively read AE and Premiere files and include a video window for syncing/sweetening. Whoa! And price is $299US or $99US upgrade for existing C.E.P. owners. Not bad. That makes the VideoCollection deal even better, IMO.
