    Any tricks here?

Can I patch and unpatch framerate, just like I do with horizontal resolution to let me author SVCD clips?

Or, could I simply re-mux as MPEG2 and then do a 3:2 Pulldown...

Anyone know how to trick the authoring software into accepting NTSCfilm MPEG1?

  2. Since your source is MPEG1, you will have to encode to MPEG2 to author it to a DVD.

As for the the framerate, you're correct in saying that a 3:2 Pulldown is neccessary. If youre using TMPEG, the exact setting, I believe, should be

Encode Mode: 3:2 Pulldown when playback
    Frame Rate 23.976 (29.97 internally)

MPEG1 CBR 29.97fps 1150-1856 is valid for DVD. Others are not.

It's the 23.976 preventing an easy dump to disc. You've go to convert to something compliant. Honestly, I'd just keep it on VCD. You're only going to make it worse at this point. That's the only reason I still have some VCDs from some years back.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

You can author PAL MPEG1 to DVD, too...it's only the film framerate that is not in spec...Darn!

    CVD is MPEG2...

  7. Take a look to the left at 'what is DVDR.' The DVD standard supports MPEG1 video. There is some debate about what resolution/bitrate is supported thou. The standard states that MPEG1 video is only supported at 352x240, but there is NO bitrate restriction (can go up to 9.8Mbit/s we assume).

CVD is a different MPEG2 standard (as an aside most people are not making CVDs but xSVCDs at 352x480).

MPEG1 video on DVD DOES have a bitrate restriction:

1856 is the max legal bitrate limit, and 352x240/288 are the only legal resolutions and 25 or 29.97 are the only legal framerates and max GOP length is 18(NTSC)/15(PAL) and no anamorphic flag. VBR is acceptable, if you have an encoder that can do MPEG1 VBR...

This is from the DVD Demystified book--I just looked it up.
