i have a bunch of karaoke dvd's i want to back up so when i sing i don't have to switch disc(s). so far i ripped each individual song i want with smartripper and placed them each individual song into its own directory. but when i use ulead dvd factory and click on 'import dvd video' and go to the song directory no compatible files are there.
when i rip the songs i get these files:
vts_01
vts_01.d2v
vts_01.lst
vts_01_0.ifo
vts_01_1.vob
my guess is that dvd factory won't let me add the dvd song files because i am missing a 'video_ts.bup' and 'vts_01_0.bup' file. how do i get those files created? or is there another way for me to author my dvd with menus using individual songs?
if this all sounds confusing to you as it does me, i will try to explain it better. thanks for the replies.
one last thing, i was thinking what might work is using the (2) dvd-5 to (1) dvdr guide. meaning i rip each song and then use ifoedit and vobedit to create the necessary files; however by doing so i probably won't be able to make a menu for each individual song.

I am not familiar with Ulead DVD Factory. Nonetheless let me offer some suggestions or pointers that maybe will help.
I primarily use DVD Maestro and DVD Architect (SoundForge) excellent to make easy menu and DVD directly from an MPEG-2 file without Demuxing.
Here is what I usually do when I try to rip pieces of a DVD and then remaster them.
I rip as you said but using DVD Decrypter. Then I run it by VOBEDIT to demux the VOB file into it's video M2V and audio MPA components. Then I use DVD Maestro to add the video track and the multiple audio tracks and create.
I am not sure if your DVD Factory app is looking for an MPEG-2 or some video file as opposed to the VOB file. May want to tinker with demuxing the VOB file and see if it helps. -
awesome i will give maestro a try. cause as of now i am able to get dvd factory to recognize the file but then dvd factory gives me an error saying that the video file is in ac-3 and dvd factory does not support that format (go figure???). thanks for the reply.

u can try tmpg author. it support .ac3 and mp2. i think it also support vob files. if it doesnt then u can sometimes trick some program to think that the file is an mpg by renameing it to .mpg extension. if tmpg author doesnt work, mydvd4 always work good and create compliant dvd. GOOD LUCK!!!

if i use tmpeg then i will have to encode the vob ac-3 file to a compliant audio format that ulead will recognize, thus taking more time. i want to try and find a way to just drag and drop the video into the program, make my menus, then burn. thanks for the tip i will try mydvd4 after i try maestro.

okay this is what i got so far. i rip the chapters i want using smart ripper. then i open ifoedit and click 'create ifo'. next i open ulead dvd factory and click on new project/add dvd video and get the vob files smart ripper created. here is the problem now. the video shows up in my dvd menu but ulead dvd factory says 'audio stream incompatible cannot be ac-3'. now how do i either get the audio stream after i rip to be linear pcm or mpeg instead of ac-3. also can i use ifoedit to fool ulead dvd factory and edit the ifo file to say linear pcm or mpeg audio instead of ac-3 audio??? thanks. i tried maestro and mydvd4 i think dvd factory does a better job and more dummy
compliant.

I think there are programs to convert your AC-3 to maybe a WAV file format that could be more compatible with ULEAD. I'm not familiar with that program you are using.
Check www.doom9.org in the download section and you can find some apps that would let you convert ac-3 to wav. -
i hope so, cause right now i am stuck. the video comes in fine with ulead, basically ulead recognizes the each individual video file and separates them into the correct chapters but after it processess the video it says audio is ac-3 and cannot continue. hopefully i can separate the audio and add it to the video later using ulead or maybe i have to use a different program to join the two. but like i mentioned before i am trying to author this dvd using the shortest path and quickest time. thanks for the tip.

As I said before I've never use ULEAD before but just curious about what you are doing.
Does ULEAD take video stream and audio stream separate? Or does it take like a single file with video and audio in it?
When you rip the video, are you ripping with smartripper into Audio and Video streams? or is it just one single stream?
If it's one single stream, try ripping into audio and video then use something to convert your audio from AC-3 then maybe ULEAD can take the video and audio stream.
