  1. Hello,

First and foremost, thanks for a great piece of software. I have had good luck with it so far. But I have an error, I am encountering and cannot get around it. I am trying to transcode a .VOB file to a VCD mpeg1. I am using the preset VCD (NTSC). Not an expert at any of this by no means so here is the full terminal copy:

    Code:
Encoding started on Thu Jul 17 17:02:23 CDT 2003
    ## Component Manager: attempting to find symbols in a component alias of type (regR/carP/x!bt)
    usage: movtoy4m -w width -h height -F a:b -a a:b [-s] [-f] [-o ppm/y4m] movie.mov

    example: movtoy4m -w 352 -h 288 -F 25:1 -a 4:3 pal_normal.mov
    example: movtoy4m -w 352 -h 240 -F 30000:1001 -a 16:9 ntsc_wide.mov

**ERROR: [mpeg2enc] Could not read YUV4MPEG2 header: system error (failed read/write)!
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

  2. I am trying to encode other types of files now with no avail, i.e. .mov, .avi, etc. I am getting the same type of component error. I reinstalled everything and it still isn't working. I did a search again and again here looking for an answer, but I cannot seem to find a solution. I did find something about a new version for support for a new build of mpeg2enc or something. Could this be the trouble?

Typically this means you're using "Use quicktime to decode", and that you don't have the Quicktime mpeg-2 component needed to read the VOB.

  4. That is what I thought also, so I reinstalled my mpeg2 component and tested some mpgs in Quicktime to be sure it was working and it was. So I don't know what else to test.

What happens if I choose "Decode with mplayer?"

  5. Okay, I tried to select the VCD (NTSC) preset and then change to decode with mplayer and here is the results:

It does create an appropiate mp2 audio file, but the m1v file is only 4 kb and of course not usable. What gives? Thanks for your help with all of this!

  6. The "Decode with mplayer" option works only when encoding to mpeg-2 (CVD, SVCD, DVD). Try disable both "Decode with mplayer" and "Decode with Quicktime". Are you encoding on a G3 or G4?

  7. I am using a Pismo G3 laptop.

  8. I unchecked both decode with quicktime and mplayer and then tried again. This is the result:

Everything was working, The only thing I can think of that might have caused it was another video editing program downloading the latest build of mpeg2enc and causing errors?? But I am just guessing, I don't know, cause I don't have a backup of the build before the last release to try! Thanks for your help on this!

With a G3 you must also uncheck the "Altivec" option.

  10. Okay, again thanks for your help!

I unchecked the "altivec" option and it looked like it was going to work perfectly, but after building a .m1v and .mp2 file, it then gave me a lot of ++warn [mplex] errors. The fatal one stated "too many dropped frames: exiting"

I didn't know what to do, so I tried to use the Tools tab and "mux" them together, which worked but the audio is about 2 seconds behind, but the sound is great and the video looks great also, if I could only get them to sync.

I played the .vob file and it played perfectly. So it appears the source is good.

  11. Here is the exact terminal output:

Maybe that will help some, forgot to include it before, so I tried a second time so I could get the output. Thanks again for all of your help! I really appreciate you and your software.
