I recently purchased the panasonic hr2. i thought i could record dvdram to Hdd but that did not work. my question, do i need to purchase another dvd player to make copies of my dvds.

To record dvd's to your hs2 you will need another dvd player. If the dvd's you have are copyguarded, you will need a dvd player that has macrovision/cgms removed or a filter box box hooked up between them that removes the cgms.

The HS2 allows you to dub from -RAM to the HDD and vice versa. However, you can't dub from -R to the HDD. Are you sure you used -RAM disc? Maybe you used -R disc instead..
