I've had a Panasonic DMR-HS2 for several years and have not had any problems with it. Recently, it has stopped working when I try to record anything.

If I try to record from TV to the HD or a disk, it shuts down and just says "BYE" on the faceplate. If I try to dub or use the timer to record, it does the same thing. When I turn it back on after it shuts down from a dubbing, it shows "RECOVER" on the faceplate. I've tried changing speeds and media. I've also tried unplugging it for a while then plugging it back in, but the problem persists.

I've gone through the troubleshooting part of the manual, and nothing seems to apply.

If anyone could offer suggestions as to what might be causing the problem or how to fix it, I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks
    Don Meyer

  2. Are you doing this via the remote? If so try the front panel buttons.

It could be a hard drive failure. Can you play anything from the hard drive ?

I am able to watch and edit everything that is already on the harddrive. This happened for a few days in June and then it went back to normal, but it's been like this for over a week now. Thanks for responding!

Settings can be changed from default due to a power outage, even a brief one, so look at everything in the setup menu and confirm the settings are as they should be.

Is the timer record queue empty ?
Check the off timer setting. (Functions/setup/setup/off timer). It should be "off".
Check that the "ratings" setting (functions/setup/disc/ratings) is set to level 8, or the highest level allowed.
Does the DMR-HS2 have a function/setting to copy protect the hard drive ? If so, check that it is not engaged.

I believe there have been previous posts in these forums regarding this type of problem. Have you searched the forums ?
