  1. OK, I did a search first so don't be too rough on me. Are the DVDs my LF-D521 produces non-regional?

  2. is the LF-D521 a burner or a DVD ROM? either way, when you say "produces" ...the hardware doesn't produce anything..the software produces it...u are only ripping and/or burning with the hardware. Basically, in short, you are going to need to use a program like IFOedit to make your backups Region Free.

  3. I'm using TMPGEnc DVD author from start to finish, including burning. Does that help?

  4. TMPENC is an encoder...is their a package called TMPENC author?

If so, I haven't heard of it...but I doubt that would allow your backups to be non regionally anyway. Either way, it can't hurt to use IFOEdit.

Just use IFOEdit and open up the Video_TS.IFO file in IFOEdit and hit the "REGION FREE" button. You will see all 8 regions become enabled and then just hit SAVE and exit. YOu will be all set.

If your standalone player has a region hack you can check whether or not the programs you are using now are making your backups region free. Just set your standalone to say "region 5" or any other region other then the one you are in now. If it plays the movies you are backing up, then you know they are region free, if it doesn't and you get some error message saying "region not supported" or something to that affect, you know that you don't have region free disks.

That's what I did with my Philips 724 AT31 standalone... to test whether IFOEdit did in fact work when you use the Region Free button..and it worked like a charm. Hope this helps you.

  5. OK, you rock! When I opened up the file in there it said somethimg like 'no rce' found. Then when I clicked again it said that it was 'region free!', did I do it correctly? Also these are from tape tranfers of tape from TV programs that were recorded on my HS2, would they have been region free to begin with? Thank for your help, bro!

  6. I think those captures may be region free anyway, but it can't hurt to do what you did. For some reason IFOEdit has some slight glitches. Sometimes when you removes PUOPS it doesn't tell you they are removed and says it didn't find any within' each respective .IFO file, but yet, the PUOPS do get removed. The same thing with Region Free...that RCE checking deal is normal.... it should directly after that say something about "ENJOY YOUR REGION FREE DVD" or something to that affect.

Then you should see all EIGHT regions ENABLED. Until you know for sure whether your methods u currently use are making the movies region free...this is your best bet. Good Luck

  7. OK, now, when I go to open those files back up, it doesn't show them as all eight regions enabled and lets me 'enable' them again, is this normal? Also, how can I check a finished DVD on my computer to verify that it is indeed region free?

  8. Does anyone have any idea about how to comfirm my DVDs are indeed non-regional without trying on a different region player? Is there a way to confirm this on my computer? Also, when I open those files back up, it doesn't show all regions as enabled and lets me enable them again. Am I posting this in the right forum?

  9. Yes, that is completelynormal. Just make sure when you hit "region free" that you hit SAVE afterwards. Even with "Save" it will probably let you continue to do the same command over although your movie will be region free. If you want to test it on your DVD ROM, just go to the properties of your DVD DRIVE and change the region to say FOUR or FIVE and then put your movie you just burned in. It should work fine....but then put in a standard commercial DVD in, which I assume is REgion 2 for you...and it should give you a warning. Go back afterwards and change your region back to 2, you only get a total of 4 changes so don't make a habit out of doing that...just this time so you can verify.

But your DVD ROM can almost certainly be hacked for unlimited region changed or region free anyway,...mine is.

  10. Thanks, Defense, I appreciate the time you took out to answer my questions. I'll have to trust you on this one, I don't know how to hack my player and don't want to use up my region changes, although who knows why I would want to change it anyway. I'm region one in California. I thank you and my international customers thank you! Sam

The DVD Author Programs like TMPGenc DVD Author, Sonic DVDit and all other that accept NTSC video will make your homemade DVDs Region 0 NTSC. the consumer level of DVD Author programs so far do not allow a region restriction.

Backing up your own hollywood made DVDs are automatically programed to Region 1 or rarely Region 0. IfoEdit is usefull in the assistance of backing up the "Hollywood DVDs" and removing the Region restiction.

To se if you homemade are Region free. again IfoEdit is good program to see it. your Software DVD players like WinDVD and PowerDVD will not show what region the DVD is, unless you stick in a different Region DVD as in Region 2 from Europe. Region 0 is a different DVD bootup command than all Region enabled.

There some DVD players that will not play a Region 0 DVD but will play a "all Region enabled"

  12. Dennis, That is exactly what I am using is TMPGEnc DVD Author from start to burn. So they are already region free? They are musical performances recorded from my UTV onto a Panny DMR-HS2, then imported into TMPGEnc. So, already region free?

Region Codes so far only apply to a complted DVD, not in creation.

Are you using the Panny to record to DVD then play/ capture into your computer? Or you using the Panny as a TiVo device? I do not know what the Panny is making the DVD at, either Region 1 or Region 0.

  14. I'm using the Panny as a recorder only, taking the UTV audio/video out into the Panny and using it strictly as a recording device. On the HS2 board, someone displayed a template that showed that all regions were enabled on the disc, if that makes sense. I have sent discs made on the unit to the UK and they play back with no problems in region 2 players and I'm in California.
