    Greetings everybody!

I have a Playstation 3 and I use it to watch my DVDs. I live in Canada so my region is 1, but I want to watch DVDs from region 2 (Europe). How can I unlock my Playstation or add the region 2 code?

Thanks a lot for helping me solve my problem.

You can't. The PS3 is resolutely region locked (Thanks, Sony) and cannot be unlocked at this time. I seem to recall that there might have been a hack to a very early firmware, but if there was it was some time back, and was fixed immediately by a new firmware release. So far only one hack looked promising, and Sony have just stomped on it by their latest firmware release stopping a second OS being installed.

Don't bank on ever playing anything other than region 1 on it for the foreseeable future. Either rip the disc to make it region free, or get a second player that isn't as limited. (I have done both in order to play region 1 discs on my region 4 PS3)

    Thanks for answering.

Then, are you aware of any cheap but efficient multiregional DVD player? If so, any url so I can order it on the net?

    Thanks again.

  4. Philips 3980, 3982, 5990, 5992. Just a few button presses on the remote.

Try to find a Philips DVP-5992, 5990, or 642. They are easily hacked, and will play both PAL and NTSC discs, as well as DIVX files. They used to be selling for ~$40, but have since gone up in price.

  6. I hear Philips players are hard to find in Canada though.

By the way, they're not great DVD players, simply adequate. But they can also play Divx videos. The 5990 and 5992 can play Divx off USB drives.

The Phoenix SumVision is a nice bit of kit for the price. It's region free (which means you can play anything other than RCE discs), is DivX compatible from disc or USB, plays all formats including JPEG (handy for photos on a flash drive or USB card reader), has HDMI output and upscales to 1080p.

Here's one on ebay UK (if they're not available in the States) which will run using a socket adptor.

I've had one of these for about a year simply to preview photos and play Region 1 DVDs and it works very well. Nice little remote too.

The only downside is that it won't play MP3 files from a DVD although it will from a CD. My Harmon Kardon will though but people find it strange when they see 3 DVD players all piled on top of each other ( one's a Blu-Ray) and a PS3 sat on top!

You're in Canada? So, go to Zellers and buy a Curtis DVD 1102. Cost $170CAD but they have been as low as $100 in recent months. You can play DVDs and Blu Rays from any region on that player by using the codes for the Momitsu 799.
