I see all kinds of offers that say you can speed up your computer's performance with software etc. This is all a joke right or does someone honestly know of ways to speed up your computer's performance with software or other methods.....please give your opinions.

Or are you actually talking a software download? Either way, im inclined to say nothing will boost your system preformance like a nice ram increase or faster larger HD.....

No I'm just questioning whether or not there is actual software out there to do this. I mean, I guess my question is...is Windows XP(or other OS) running at optimal performance when it is shipped with a new computer or can one make it as well as everything else on the computer operate faster? Also, if you could tell me how to add an emoticon to my profile page I would appreciate it...I can't seem to do it.

Other than overclocking, and loading to the MAX with memory and what not, not to my knowledge.
Maybe someone can correct me if im wrong.

Popup whenyou load THIS page? If so make sure your hitting the correct address www.dvdrhelp.com, and check for spyware because you should get no popups here.

As far as that type of software goes, ignore it. Its all trash. Make sure you have your drives all up to day, and if you use a via based board make sure you have the latest VIA 4in1 drivers installed. Thats all you need to do.

I even get popups that launch Netscape when I'm using IE.

I think its something wrong with my computer, not this pages fault. It never use to happen.

Sounds like your loaded down w/ spyware. Get adaware (free) and run it to remove all spyware.

  8. Well, it is possible to make your computer go faster using software, but it is a little misleading. It can make some things go faster. Some programs load a CD into RAM for instance, that will cause you to access its data faster. Some web accelerators will start to download every link on a webpage you vistit in anticipation of you clicking on it, thus when you do, it is already on your computer. It will not however make your computer hardware run any faster. It just "works around" the slow parts.

However, by and large, I would follow flaystus' advice and just stay away from it. The preformance gains are very minimal, and it opens a huge box of things that can go wrong.

Yeah man that sounds like an issue with your computer. I do believe if you have adware/spyware on your computer you will get pop ups all the time. But there are no pop ups on this site at all. Thanks for the emoticon advice though! :P

  10. Like Solarjetman said, some software makes the computer run faster. However if they are advertising through the use of pop-ups (especially if the pop ups are from spyware) then I would be very dubious as to the quality of such programs.

The best advice is to use tools such as a defragmentation utility, spyware scanner, anti-virus program and a firewall. Programs like this will help keep your computer running at its best.

Also you can use things such as download accelerators except in my experience these do little in terms of real speed gains and generally just bog down your computer.

None are cookies. I clean those out very frequently. Whatever they were im glad they were gone, my web browsing ability has returned to normal, no more pop ups on this page.

My wife hated it, she hardly uses the comptuer because of all the pop ups, however maybe this means she will use it more now!!!!!!!!!!!!

  15. yeah dude- its true, software boosters do work, and i dont mean overclocking:

there are quite a few expensive programs such as Tweak XP (or others with similar names) and also Ram Idle pro etc

anyway, there are speed benefits to tweaking XP- reduced loading & boot times etc, however, some of them can result in system instability.

basically, tweak xp & other programs do work, but they do no offer as much freedom as some other programs, some of which are free.

    here are 2:

Rivatuna (maybe spelt rivatuner): this is mostly graphics orientated, and does allow overclocking as well as graphics card tweaking

xtechsetup (or similar)- this is a very good tweaking tool for xp, very flexible, but only make a few small tweaks before restarting to ensure stability
1)Why Not Overclock a little?! speed 4 free!!!!
    2) If your question has anything to do with copying PS2/PC/XBox games, find a more appropriate website
