sometimes it burns only half of a movie or dosnt burn them at all. is there anything else better
-
Try reinstalling Nero because I've never had that problem and use another program to encode such as TMPGEnc.There are several programs that burn VCD,look in Tools.
-
What do you mean by "burn stuff to vcd"? If you mean the whole process of converting "stuff" like DivX or other kinds of AVI's to a VCD compliant mpeg, author it as VCD and burn the image to a CD, then yes, except for the last step there are many tools better suited for the task. Nero is good at writing data to a CD-R(W), but not to encode to mpeg, nor author to (S)VCD.
I suggest you look under the HOW TO - Convert section left, there are plenty of guides on the subject of converting stuff to VCD!

If you are trying to burn to a DVD +/- R, use CopyToDVD.
Good Software, I too gave up on Nero. -
Been using Nero since I gave up on Roxio (Adaptec) E-Z CD Creator a few years back. Nero is the best ! I use it on all my burners (two CD-RWs and one DVD-RW)...

I find most posts that state "______ sucks" are not because of the product, but rather to be 1) user error, 2) a lack of understanding about the program, 3) a bad installation, or 4) using a version that's older than dirt.
This post would fit that description.
Nero 5.5.10.28 and higher are magnificient programs, with few errors, if any.I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored. -

i've never had problems with nero burning vcds or svcds. dvds however are a different story. nero will only burn at "max" speed of my burner which is 2x and the media i use (ritek) will not burn at 2x with my current firmware. so for burning dvds i use VOB Instant CD/DVD.
Laserdiscs are cool, but laserdiscs on DVD-Rs are cooler. -
My experience with Nero with regards to DVD burning has been less than spectacular. For CDRW burning Nero was adequate. But for DVD-movies burning I haven't made a single good copy yet that works on my standalone player. Lucky I've been using a DVD-RW. As a backup solution (DVD-data) Nero is fine but as a solution for DVD/SVCD etc it has been problematic. I've yet to find a way to solve the Nero movies issues with DVD Burning. I've tweaked many settings (UDF 1.02, etc) but to no avail. Nero Express which came with the Burner is an absolute joke too. At the moment, I'm using Tmpgenc DVD Author (Menu) and Sonic Foundry's DVD Architect (Burning) which gives me perfect results every time. I think DVD Architect lets you make menus too, but I find DVD Author a little more intuitive to use.

There is nothing wrong with nero . I use it for everything I burn dvd , vcd , svcd , and cd . There is nothing you cant do with nero . I have backed up over 100 dvd's with it and they work on all three of my set top players . People often fear or hate what they dont understand .

i use nero almost daily. for vcd, svcd and dvd-r copy. it is simple, yet advanced nice interface and ive had it over a year with no patches etc.
suffice to say it is a great affordable all around good burner -
I bought RecordNow Max at CompUSA for a mere $39 USD. I decided against Nero after reading and seeing some of the problems people were reporting. After wasting my money on EasyCD Creator I didn't want to waste more on another problem program.
BTW never heard of the program "CopyToDVD", where do I buy that at and how much? -
I agree, nero sucks for burning DVD's. I use Recordnow max for DVD's and nero for CD's
-
Most of the people I know agree that Nero is not the program to burn DVD with.
But for VCD, SVCD, DATA and AUDIO CDs it is spot on
I have burnt thousands of CDs using it.
I was once a Easy CD user and MAN THAT WAS POOH!!

I use Nero for burning DVD
with no failure yet. Discs play flawlessly on my Pioneer 454 player and in my computer.

I'm thinking the problem may exist between chair and keyboard here.. my brother kludges even CDROM Nero burns awfully, my mother hasn't a clue even when it comes to building the file list... and I have no problem with it. Audio, CDText, CDROM, single or multisession, VCD, CD Extra, etc, it all works great. I doubt the program is sensing who's using it and changing accordingly.
Nero can't make an incredibly complex VCD it's true, and it's encoding performance is horrendous - but if you don't care about layered menus and chapter breaks (that's what the search by time button is for!), and all you're after is flinging a couple of ready-to-go TV episode MPGs onto a disc (or a single one for a movie), maybe with a simple menu screen, it's great, robust, and a piece of cake. Add MPGs to file list, wait a while, set up menu if needed, press burn. Flawless output. The problem?
Indeed, can't say I've ever had a problem with it's VCD routines, apart from some learning-curve things, and the odd way that bitmap menu pictures are resized.
If you need something more, there's always VCDEasy. Takes a while to set all the stuff up but it sure is powerful. Too much so just for a simple disc, even...-= She sez there's ants in the carpet, dirty little monsters! =-
Back after a long time away, mainly because I now need to start making up vidcapped DVDRs for work and I haven't a clue where to start any more! -
I noticed that nobody mentioned ulead movie factory for burning vcd/svcd. After converting in tmpeg I use that exclusivly to burn them just a few clicks and it puts on a great front end menu .. and burns no problems at all
As for nero and dvd's only just started using it but seams no dramas at allI feel like I'm diagonally parked in a parallel universe.(S) -
okay, "nero sucks" is one of the lamest comments i've seen on the forums lately...i would have to totally agree with the member that listed the 4 reasons people have problems, most of the time, it's the user's fault or bad media. give nero a damn good try before you switch..i've burned everything, dvd, vcd, svcd. I generally stick to Easy cd for music just cause i like the GUI better for that but, Nero is the ONLY way to do DVDs if you ask me. I think it's the best...check out what you are doing wrong and i think that maybe you will find the same as I and many others..

Why's everyone so eager to defend Nero? If you read the original post (beyond the overly general heading) it's about alternatives to Nero when it comes to "burn stuff to vcd" which I must admit that there are many, 'specially if "stuff" is anything that's not already a VCD compliant mpeg.

and honestly, I don't have any to offer him - when I was burning VCD's and SVCD's, Nero performed flawlessly. Now that I've switched to DVD-R, the only coasters I've burned with Nero (2 or 3 out of 80+ discs) were my own error, not Neros.
besides, he opened the door for it... instead of titling his post "Nero sucks", why not "other burning progs besides Nero?" or "alternatives to Nero?". By asserting "nero sucks", he's opened the argument to concurring and dissenting opinion.- housepig

I use Ulead after TMPG and get stellar results. With Nero you can't have any flexability in bitrate or type of bitrate (cbr, vbr). I would never use one of these so called "all in one" programs for vcd or svcd as most can't get the encoding job done. I spent the few dollars and picked up TMPG Pro and it is worth every penny compared to the waste of money on MF2.

After tearing my hair out with Roxio Easy CD Shite, Nero was a God send. I've tried RecordNowMax, but prefer Nero.

I agree with txpharoah on this one. I've been watching the posts that saying a certain product sucks and almost ALWAYS without fail it's the user's fault, not the product.
-
It is a good BURNING program and not much else. I have encoded svcd's with TMPG and burnt them with Nero only to have blocky pixelated crap. MF2 has done better for me in that respect, Neither can encode worth a dootie!
