  1. I trying to capture some home movies onto my PC from my 8mm camcorder. I have an ATI all in wonder graphic card to do the capturing. My question is what is the best sofware to use for the capturing. I have the software which came with the card (will alow me to capture at 4 settings from VCD to DVD quality) & Pinnacle Studio 8.1 which came with the card. I also have a copy of Ulead DVD movie factory which will alllow me to capture or should I dump the lot and use Virtual Dub & Frameserve to TMPGenc? Or should I download/purchase some other software?

Thanks in advance for any comments or suggestions.

  2. Vdub and TMPGEnc gets my vote. It's what I use and have found no reason to change my mind.

my capture card doesn't play nice with Virtualdub, so after some testing I found that iuVCR gives me good results - kludgy interface, but highly customizable, great audio sync and few dropped frames (<8 / hour )

from there, encode with TMPGenc, author with DVD Lab.

  5. Pinnacle Studio 8.1 does not come with ATI card's ATI has there own software. just use ATI software use MMC 8.1 or MMC 8.5 and but on the filter in setting when you make your own template's use heavy news or sport's to clean up old vhs tapes

  6. For an ATI card I would recommend the MMC 7.x series and the Ulead Videostudio.

I used to use VirtualDub, but I had some issue with it. For some reason it did not want to play well with my cap card all the time. I liek virtual dub and use it for editing now, but Ulead does better for me in not dropping frames.

I use the version of Virtual Dub that keeps audio in sync without dropping frames. http://www-user.rhrk.uni-kl.de/~dittrich/sync/

Then I use TMPGEnc Plus to convert to DVD mpg2.

I am very satisfied with the results.

    Either ATI's MMC 7.7 or 8.1.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

  9. VDub, iuVCR and AVI_IO are the most popular choices. VDub is freeware the other two are shareware.
