whats the best way to convert vob to divx

ive got vob files on me comp
i need to work out the best bitrate to make the film fit to 1 cd as a divx

ive got a bitrate calc tht says for a film of 1 hour 43 is 912 bitrate, when i use that the avi is about 300 megs with naff quality, which is rubbish,

i can convert avi to s/vcd with ace results

but from dvd/vob to avi/divx, having probs

the guide on this site is a bit naff, in detail

anyone help?

ive tried using flaskmpg but its naff aswell

Do you have the MPEG-2 mod of Virtual Dub? If you do have it, it is all you need.

Also has a good DVD to Xvid guide....if you are into supporting open source, I have always gotten good results with Xvid.

just read through that guide, and surely theres a shorter way to do it, it seems easier to go vob to dvd2avi to tmpgenc make mpg than vob to divx

is there any smaller simpler guides

is there anyway for vdub to open all vobs together and not 1 by one
