  1. I AM NEW TO ALL OF THIS VIDEO CONVERTING SO I NEED HELP CONVERTING AN .AVI TO AN MPEG-2 WITH ANY SOFTWARE. I HAVE USED VEGAS VIDEO v4.0, TMPGEnc PLUS, AND CCE. I CAN'T GET MY DV VIDEOS TO CONVERT RIGHT. THE VIDEO LOOKS REALLY CHOPPY LIKE I AM USING A DIFFERENT FRAMERATE, BUT I AM NOT. I AM CONVERTING THE VIDEO WITHOUT THE AUDIO. I CAN EMAIL SOMEONE THE TEMPLATE I AM USING FOR TMPGEnc AND TELL ME WHAT I AM DOING WRONG.

    MY SYSTEM IS A P4 1.7 GHz, 2GB OF RAM, GEFORCE 4 128MB

  2. Sounds like it could be the field order is set wrong. I thought tmpgnec was good at picking the correct order, but I use CCE, so I'm not as familiar with tmpgnec. Anyway, try encoding a short clip using the same settings, just switching the field order and see if it clears up the problem.

(i.e., if you had 'top field first' switch to 'bottom field first' or vice versa.)

  3. i THINK THAT I TRIED THIS BEFORE BUT I COULD BE WRONG. DO YOU HAVE A TEMPLATE FOR CCE OR DO YOU KNOW WHERE I CAN GET GET A TUTORIAL FOR CCE. I HAVE ONLY PLAYED AROUND WITH IT AND IT DEFINITELY HAS MORE OPTIONS.

  4. With CCE, you sort of create your own templates. Which version of CCE are you using? Also, what is your source material? And does the original avi play out okay on your computer?

  5. I AM USING CCE SP 2.67.00.08. I'M USING AVI FILES FROM MY DV CAM AND THEY PLAY PERFECT IN WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER.

  6. Hm- sorry, but I'm at a bit of a loss. As far as I know, DV cam footage should be fully interlaced and 29.97 fps. [Note- I've never played with is myself, so could be wrong!] So, nothing odd there as far as I know. If it was a dropped or bad frame problem, I'd think it would show up in the original avi.

The only idea I have is the field order. I use CCE 2.66 on occassion, and have to tick 'upper field fist' for proper encoding of my canopus generated avis. But if you've already tried both field orders...

Let's see- under 'quality', I set intrablock precision to 10 and block scanning order to 'alternate'- I believe those are defaults of the standard template anyway and I'm not sure it would make it stutter, anyway. The bitrate isn't so high it goes above 9800kbs with sound, is it? Or so low you get pixelization (guess not, or you'd have said).

Um- sorry, but I'm at a loss. Maybe someone else has ideas, because I'm out. Luck with it.
