  1. Got an NEC 1300A.

Fitted it into my XP2000+ system. This already has a 52x liton CDRW in it. Use nero.

Both the CDRW and new DVDRW are sitting on a promise ata100 controller.

    CDRW still works fine.

DVDRW reads DVDs fine. It writes CDs fine (updated to latest nero to recognise drive).

But... any attempt to write DVD in nero gets to 'initialising drive'... then just sits there 'not responding'.

task can't be killed and a restart is required.

I've tried unistalling nero, installing 2.60 aspi drivers and things like intervideo dvd copy, and stomp.. same thing.

I've tried uninstalling everything and reinstally nero.

I've tried DVDXPress and countless other things.

DVD drive also shows as 'CD Drive' in explorer... but it was writing tab, and it plays DVDs (winDVD).

All that I can think of to try now is try the drive as a slave on the promise controller, try it on the main board, then if that fails try it in one of my other PCs to see if it works there.

anybody have any other ideas ? seems to be what with it burning CDs fine that aspi layer is all ok, and dma is all ok.. but some sort of driver conflict is stopping it writing DVDs (tried all sorts of DVD-Rs, DVD-RWs in it too).

have you tried dvd+r discs in your writer. I have the same writer and i had similar problems to you. i was using dvd-r and these will not work. dvd+r discs work with no problems.

  3. Just a guess but I remember seeing posts here about problems with any drives on the "promise" controllers. I would try relocating the drive on the mainboard IDE just to see if that fixes it.
