  1. not sure if this is the right forum, but it kind of involves a possible conversion...
Ok in a nut shell, i have a 13 vcd se of a Japanese show. For arguments sake lets say it's at NTSC rate (352x240, 1150bit). Each of the 13vcds has 2 episodes less then 60mins. Ok what i would like to do is take these and put them onto a dvd. Since the rate is 1150, i could/would be able to put all 26eps onto 2 dvds (the only reason for this would be for convience). Now here are my questions

.1. is it possible to have a dvd with a pic size of 352x240? I did once make an svcd with a pic size of 352x240 and it still worked fine, using that theory...

    2. I would not want to capture these like regular files, as doing so will make the file bigger and the pic will not look any better then vcd quality, Yet i know if i had to re-encode the file (taking it then directly from the vcd disc) Would i loose that much quality if i kept everything the same, but encoded it as an mpeg 2 with a constant rate?

    thanks for any info,

  2. 1) Yes

    2) Use VCDGear to convert the DAT files back to MPEG1. Re-encoding to MPEG2 will hurt the quaility. Q: why convert to MPEG2? Compression quaility wise, MPEG1=MPEG2 at the same bitrate and resolution. The main advantages of MPEG2 over MPEG1 have to due with features that MPEG2 has that are lacking in MPEG1 (eg. support for interlacing, multi audio tracks, multi-angles, etc). So I would just make lots of VCDs on 1 DVDR disc.
