Without a firmware upgrade (hacked I mean). I really don'tm want to void my warranty or kill my drive. So . . . does anyone know if these two discs will burn at 4 speed out of the spindle? Thanks . . . also, how can I tell what version my firmware is? I know I saw it somewhere on my computer (I think it's 1.30), but for the life of me now I can't find it again.

They both do.
Here's Pioneers firmware checking utility http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/hs/update.html
(direct download http://ds1.downloadtech.net/cn1010/CHKRW.EXE )
1.33 is the newest I know of. And what I've burnt the Accu4x and Optodisc 4x with.
Not in english, but if you scroll down, DVR105_FW133BJ.EXE (1.1MB) and download is in english :P

Okay, I cheked the firmware and it is 1.30. It also says that is the newest and I don't need to upgrade. Did you upgrade to the 1.33 from the site you listed? Also, I know it's japan so will that have any effect on my american pioneer A05? I know I sound like a Nervous Nellie but I would hate to screw my drive up so soon after buying it. -
Like TX said, if it ain't broke why fix it?
It's just a habbit I have of always updating to the newest firmware.
Give it a go with the 1.30, you shouldn't have any problems.
