I wanted to make a backup copy of my Region 1 'The Last Waltz'. I extracted the files using DVD Decrypter in file mode. I got the usual message about my DVD-RW drive not being compatible with the region of the DVD and the blurb about using a longer method to extract the files. (I have a Sony DWU-10A firmware flashed to a DWU-500A with latest firmware update)
When I had all the files, I transcoded them using DVD2One and omitted the commentary and PCM soundtracks to optimise picture quality.
When I played back the backup DVD, I selected play movie and got a blue screen message saying that my player was not compatible with the region code of the disc. I've never had this before on a backup of a Region 1 disc.
Pressing the menu button on my Pioneer DV-350 enabled the film to be played without any problems. Exactly the same thing happened when I tried to play the movie in my DVD-RW drive.
Anyone give me any answers to why this happened?
Thanx
DoctorJ

A little odd. But the easiest thing to do at this point is to remove the region lock with IFOEdit, open the VIDEO_TS.IFO file and click the 'make region free button' then re-burn to DVDR.

I also show how to remove RCE protection here with either IFORegionEdit or DVDDecrypter.

That is wierd!
DVD decrypter removes region protection and, as far as I'm aware, so does DVD2ONE.
I'd start from the beginning and rip the disk again, making sure that DVD Decrypter is indeed removing the region protection. Then continue as normal.
I think DVD Decrypter can also 'patch' a region disk, but I've never tried it.Regards,

Thank you for those replies. I will try again using IFO edit.
BTW ... Your site has been SO helpful to me as a newbie MrBass. Thank you -
I've just added this post to say DECRYPTER has failed on many titles
over here in just this way that you describe.
So I've made a habit of playing the ready to burn project from the hARD DRIVE with power dvd.
MORE THAN LIKELELY, this sense a potential REGION FREE error from the decryptor that we see here.
Like you I either submit it to the REGION-FREE Patching utitlity in the decryptor itself..
REMEMBER to do all IFO's not just the VIDEO_TS.IFO
also IfoEDIT does it better cause it actually fixes all the BUP files also (they are back-ups to the ifo's)
I think this is happening because if not regualer REGION ENCODING but
as someone said
RCE or region control enhancements!
some of these are 'sposed to shut down if a MULTI_REGION player is sensed..never seen this tho'
Usually when you shrink a dual layer, the rce goes away without probs...but I've seen this on at least 4 titles now
