  1. Transferring DVD Ram files to computer give me the following important file (there are always 2 other files : bup file and ifo file... but I think I don't need it) :

VR_MOVIE.VRO (for example 2627298 KB for the movie ChickenRun)
Playing this file with PowerDVD or Media Player is OK ! (Same Quality than SVCD !)

AVICODEC gives me the following information about the file :

    File : 2.51 GB (1.24 GB), duration 1:16:30, type MPG, 1 audio stream(s), quality 90 %
    Video : 1.10 GB, 9556 Kbps, 25.0 fps, res. 704*576 (16:9), MPG2 = MPEG 2 (SVCD/DVD), Supported
    Audio : 140 MB, 256 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 chan., 0x2000 = AC3 DVM [0x80], Supported

I'm looking around to find the appropriate tools to cut some pubs and replace the black borders (sometimes these aren't looking good !) included in my movies WITHOUT LOSS OF QUALITY !
The purpose is to have 2 files (m2v and Ac3) to include in my Authoring soft (DVDMaestro)

Any help would be appreciate !

There is no way to directly edit an MPEG file, and resave it as MPEG, without losing quality. It would require you to re-encode the file, which forces you to recompress the file in MPEG format.

That said, re-encoding your mpeg, assuming the source is good quality, should result in very little loss in quality. This also assumes you will be using sufficient bitrate for whatever format you re-encode to. I'd suggest you get DVD2AVI, and save the project file from there. This file can be dropped into TMPGenc, or served to CCE for re-encoding.

You can also do the cropping with DVD2AVI. Some of the older versions didn' work properly, but I believe the newer ones have fixed the problem. As long as you don't plan to put the file directly back onto DVD, then you can crop in DVD2AVI when creating the project file.
