Hi there,
I've been trying to record some 740 MB of data (old films) on 90-minute CDs that I bought some time ago.
The problem is that, even after I change the "Expert settings" in Nero to 89 minutes - and allow overburning- the damn program keeps saying that I need larger media.
I know for sure that my 52x LiteOn CD-RW supports up to 99 minute CD-Rs, and the media I'm trying to record is definitely 90 minutes each (whatever that is in MB, 800 or something like that).
What the heck? I'm completely baffled...
CD burning gurus! what is the recipe for your success?

I posted the same question a little while ago and got no answers, just the usual dumb pointless comments. I also tried to overburn with NTI Cdmaker and ran into the same problem as Nero. I suspect that you simply cannot use 90/99 minute CDR's for data disks. The programs are probably trying to protect people from the poor data burning of these disks. SVCD/VCD don't use the error correction that data disks do,that's why you can burn 800MB's on a 700MB disk,no error correction bits are used.

I have no problems burning large (800 mb +) onto 99 min CDRs.
Under Neros "Expert Features" Enable "Overburn Disc At Once Burning".
Change the "Maximun CD Length" to 90mins
Adjust The Yellow and Red markers under "General"
Also ensure you are burning as Disc At Once and not as Track At Once - under the "Write CD" dialog box, you must be burning as Disc At Once for Overburning to work.
Hope this helps. -
There's no guarantee your CDRW can do this. I've had 2 that wouldn't and 1 that did. I've also had some CDROM's that wouldn't read it correctly. Newer ones seem fine but older ones are suspect.
Disk at once only!! #1 nero over-burning issue, must be disk at once.To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan -
Verify the product-details of your burner whether it can write HighCapacity disks. If it can, don't go beyond its maximal capacity (so don't expect to burn more than 904MB onto 90minutes disks).
Use disks which are designed for these HighCapacity.
Usually, writing over 800MB at HC-disks requires you to enable the 'overburn' option, even if you're using HC-disks and your writer does accept them.
Also, usually, you need to write in DAO-mode (so SAO or TAO won't work). Verify with Nero, while Nero usually doesn't do DAO (but only SAO/TAO instead). -
I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that you buy a DVD Burner instead. The prices have really come down on these. They will drop significantly more due to the impending release of 8X drives around September, if you wan't to wait. IMHO, the money spent on the Burner is more than offset by
-the improved quality of your project
-the portability to DVD players, and not only computers
-the saving of endless hours trying to do the CD thing
of course, the Burner can then be useful for other projects also. -
As VCDHunter said, make sure you're set to disk at once, not track at once in the write CD dialogue box. I had this same problem with Nero and nearly went nuts trying to write 90 & 99 minute disks until I fixed that.
