  1. Sure this has been talked about b4, but didn't see it in any topics. Forgive me for bringing it up again.

I just started authoring dvds, transferring stuff from video. My dvd's are very pixilated, seem to be missing frames (video is choppy instead of fluid), audio seems slightly off (maybe from missing frames), and also seems to be playing back slower than the original vhs tape.

i'm sure vcr is fine, using the following:
Dazzle capture device - plugs into USB port
Using Sonic My DVD to author.
Uses DVD+R, format came w/ Dell computer (bought last December)

Trouble is only when capturing from video. Copied other DVD's & that is fine. Any help would be appreciated - please keep in mind that i am not very technical savy; would appreciate help geared for novices. THANKS!!!

You've got issues. Keep reading guides and past forum posts.
    You're dropping frames.
And your card is junk (sorry).
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

  3. I cannot help you much because I do not own a Dazzle capture product, but I can go ahead and mention that you should post the model of the capture product you have. Someone that can help you is bound to ask that. Dazzle makes a few different units that plug into USB (i.e. DVC 100, DVC 150, DVC 80, Fusion, and others).

Also, try browsing and posting to Dazzle's support forum at

You may find your answer there.

    Best of Luck.

  5. yep, sounds like dropped frames.
I don't know your card either.

Do the obvious if you haven't already and defrag your drive! A slow drive will cause lost frames.

I capture directly to mpg 2 with my ATi AIW capture card, and then I use TEMPENc DVD Author to create the DVD files. Free 30 day fully working demo.

    I been burning using Nero.

ALL of my disks play on a Norcent DP 300 pefectly, but I have issues with a Phillips (friends) and Maybe an Allegro DVD + VHS unit (bought today!).

I been buring -r -rw disks. Phillips gave disk error, Allegro plays all DVD's but 1 fine so far, but chokes on the VCD's with a disk error!

If you can change your setting for capturing, try about 4,000bits up to 6,000bits. Go with mpg 2 files instead of AVI if your just capturing and burning. Might help to stop frame dropping.

In capturing VHS I find that 4,000 is good for me for a low setting, less and I lose quality, and over 6,000 is a waist I feel for VHS! I base my bit rate on the lenght of the movie to get about the corect file size for a DVD-r. I try to stay near 4gigs.

Read the manual for your card of course and see if it has any info about frame dropping, or check thier websites FAQs.

Oh yea, you have played back the captured file and it was the same way, RIGHT!
If you pay it back and it does not have problems, then it wasn't dropped frames, it was something else

I had some of the same problems when I had a DV80. I also had problems with the color, and the video would speed up, then slow down, and the audio would stay the same, out of sync with the video, the video would block up (like an MPEG with too low of a bit rate), even though I was capturing in .avi. I ended up junking it (I let my son play with it on his computer), and getting a better capture device. That was no help, I know. But just to let you know you are not the only one that has had problems with this device. Sorry

  7. Yeah, USB (especially 1) get a pretty bad rap. You may be more satisfied with a cheap tv tuner card. That's what I use and for the money, it works great.

I'll agree with the previous post. USB isn't really fast enough for decent quality capture. It may not be much help to you, but I also suggest you get something better to capture with.
