i have tried inbuilt video links from firefox, various video downloaders, orbit and internet download manager. i tried screen capture with camtasia and replay media catcher but the files are very large 500mb and in mpeg.

You might try Fraps. It has worked for just about any video and site that I have tried.
Most all screen capture utilities will produce large files as they are doing the capture in real time. Highly compressed capture takes much more CPU power.
You can use 'half-size' in Fraps to create a smaller file. You can run the Fraps files through VirtualDub or similar and re-encode them to a more compact format like Divx or Xvid.

Other members may have more specific suggestions.

    And welcome to our forums.

    thank you redwudz,
I will try out fraps as suggested. I am really amazed at the speed at which I have received a reply. That is great.

  5. Fraps is a screen recorder. It can record anything that's on the screen. It doesn't download the original files.

Camtasia has the option to produce in different format and quality.

When you capture it will be saved as .camrec file

The edited project is saved as .camproj file

After editing you (if necessary) you can produce in required format. Choose 'Custom Production Setting' to get different selection options.

For example: If you select Camtasia recommending setting for WMV format the size should be considerable lower than 100% quality mp4, flv, swf . Do a few test runs to see which is best for your requirement.

If the duration of the video is very long then I dont suppose there is anything much to reduce the size except compromise on quality or split it.

  8. I did a trial capture with Camtasia7 of the first video in this link

1 CT Angiography for the pre therapeutic ....

The final size in Camtasia recommend setting for WMV is 1.24 MB. The quality is excellent without any noticeable difference..and without the size being too large.

  9. VirtualDub has a screen capture ability that you could use too. I capture a minute or so from the first link (just the slideshow window) as uncompressed RGB at 1 frame per second and 48 KHz 16 bit stereo audio. Then compressed it with Xvid and Lame MP3...
