  1. hey

ive been burning vcds from a little while now and recently just started tryin out Svcds. Can anyone help me with a few problems

    1) When i pause the movie on my standalone dvd player then press play again it goes back to the start of the chapter.
    2) When i fast forward then press play the same happens for x2, when i try and 8x fford, the movie stops.
    3) if i put goto minute 44, it doesnt go to the right minute (went to minute 36 for some reason)

I used DVD2SVCD to create it (with TMPEG encoding) and nero to burn. My dvd supports svcds so thats no problem.

Can any shed some light as to whats up? thanks

Try another burning program like VCDEasy to create your disks.

  3. I have an APEX DVD player......cheap, but damn if it doesn't play EVERYTHING!!!

Problem number 1 happens on my DVD player....but not my buddy's (don't know which brand) We can fast forward, push play, and it resumes where it left off. As a trick for mine I learned that if you FF, push pause, and THEN push play......IT WORKS! Hope that at least helps a bit.

    Problem number 2.......DITTO

Problem number 3......I have NEVER been able to get my SVCD's to go to the right time. And what's more.....a 45 minute SVCD will read something like 35 minutes on my DVD player......drives me freakin' nuts as I can't make menu's that go to the right places! I have yet to test this on my buddy's player.

I think these problems may be player related.

    Good luck!!

  5. tnx for some ideas, ill try them out now

    just abit more too add.

greater then x2 fastforward only doesnt work when PBC is turned on. If its off its fine(but no chapters obviously) cept it still jumps back when play is pressed

With the pause / resume thing it starts off only jumping back 10-15 seconds at the start but as the movie goes on that gap gets bigger till at the end of the movie if you pause then resume it jumps back about 6-8 mins

Anymore ideas? ill try out the ones listed now and see if that works

    thanks guys

Does you encode using Sequence-Headers after each GOP?
The player requires to have valid scantables, these are some kind of informational blocks in the mpeg that telll the player how to display a GOP (display information etc.)
These are required for fast forwarding/reverse and also for chapters.

See also my explenation at VCDwizard - ISO Page, where I explained the following :
    Scan Information Data
According to the specification, it is mandatory to encode scan information data into user data blocks in the picture layer of all intra coded pictures. It can be used by playing devices for implementing fast forward & fast reverse scanning.
The already existing scan information data can be updated by enabling the update scan offsets option, in VCDwizard.
