  1. XP Pro with latest TMPGEnc Plus

I've used Merge/Cut many times before but can't use it with a series of MPEG-2 (SVCD) files I downloaded recently. Characteristics of these files:

    480x480, 29.970fps, Avg bit rate 1689Kbps
Audio format 44KHz stereo, 128Kbps layer II

I can play the vids fine with any player on my system. Merge/Cut opens them fine and even plays them fine. It's just that the slider bar does not move.

I normally have no problem with the slider bar and just tried it with other types of files (even other SVCD's) and it worked fine.

So are there some files that might cause this that I've stumbled onto?

Could be corupt files. I had the same problem with TEMPGEnc DVD Author with 1 or 2 files. When I tried to slide the slider it would stop responding. Same happened with other programs I tried. My conclusion, Corupted files.

  3. I tried something else: Took a completely unrelated SVCD that works fully with Tmpgenc and does not have the above problem. Cut the first minute out of it and wrote it out. Then used Merge/Cut to open up that 1-minute file. Guess what? Yup, the slider bar is grayed out, just like it was with the unrelated files mentioned in my first message.

So corruption doesn't make sense. Is it possible that my original files were actually run through Merge/Cut by someone else before they uploaded them, and that once you run a file through that process you can't ever again?

maybe you have missing or corrupt headers on the mpeg2 files, as demonstatrated by you cutting one minute and therefore header info incorrect therefore tmpgenc cant slide. you already said your audio is at 128 which is nonstandard for mpoeg2. so maybe it only works on standard mpg2 files with correct headers

TMPGEnc is unreliable when editing mpegs not created by TMPGEnc itself
Something acknowledged by the author of this superb program.
