hi all
hope someone can help and im sure someone has done this before of what i ask.
last night i managed to backup 'Matrix' movie only using DVDdecrypter file mode to burn the dvd to harddrive then opened up dvdshrink 2.3 and loaded up the files and made a successful movie only with chapterpoints backup. Im satisfied with the quality and but what i would also like to have is the menu. I don't want to create a new menu but want to keep the existing one from the original DVD. I understand that if i removed the extras there is way in ifoedit to 'break' the link in the menu.
What tools would i have to use and how would i used them to have a menu and movie only with chapter points without too much quality loss.
ps: i have searched the guides section and have done a forum search but couldn't find anything what i was looking for.
thanks in advance for anyhelp.

As long as you like DVD shrink the easiest thing to do is to rip the entire DVD to the HD, run DVD shrink, convert everything expect the main movie to 'still image' (not the menu), then re-author the disc.

hi Vejita-sama
thanks for the reply, i dont really mind using other software and i dont have to use dvd shrink im open to suggestions.
It would be great if i can achieve a menu, movie only with chapters without too much quality loss.
Do you have any other methods of achieving the above?

There's a few ways.
Most require re-authoring though.
If I'm bored, I'll just use Maestro.
Use VOBRator to demux the m2v and ac3 for the menu(s), subrip to rip the subpicture of the menus. Import all into Maestro, define connections and author.
You could also use IFOUpdate, just replace the extras with dummy PGC's. This is easiest in Scenarist. Let's say your extras are in VTS03 with 4 PGC's. I'll create a new VTS with 4 titles, and give each title a slideshow. Works just fine. This way you can pick and choose which extras you want to keep. Follow Trilight's guides, and the DoItFast4U guides, and instead of encoding the extras, just use the black bitmaps, make sure you use a slideshow instead of still show. Still show will give you a 5-10 second black screen, the slide show's play time can be defined.
You can also use IFOUpdate with DVDShrink's output.
If you need a more detailed explanation let me know. -
hi disturbed1
you gave a load of suggestions, which one of those methods would you recommend, i know how to used DVDSHRINK 2.3 and wouldnt mind using IFOEDIT UPDATE with that purely because i wont have to learn much but i dont mind using another programme.
If you could, can you give a bit more details on using IFOEDIT UPDATE with DVD SHRINK or preferably a link to an online guide, that would be great.
thanks for your help so far

I just did the Alien series with menu and movie only. Rip in file mode-delete the vob's that contain the extras-make sure you keep all the ifo files. Convert with DVD2ONE.

But there's more to it. Following that guide will allow you to keep all extras. If you want to strip some extras, you'll have to reauthor, or use IFOEdit to strip VTS's or Vob ID's. Doom9 has plenty of guides on these, and the IFOEdit forum is full of how to's.
this is a great IFOEdit thread http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=43142
Easy way out is just to use DVDShrink in full back up, strip all audio from the extras, and select still picture encoding. This will retain the navigation structure, but will lower the size.
Pinnacle's Instant Copy can uncheck VTS's, not sure if it retains a pure navagation structure or not, you'd have to verify it with IFOEdit. Elby's CloneDVD can strip VTS's, but replaces them with a full length grey screen.
If you rip the VIDEO_TS.BUP/.IFO, and the menu vobs, then try full movie with DVD2One, if it completes (should pop up an error "you need to rip the whole DVD to do Full Movie backup") the DVD navigation will fail in most players.
