This is my first time using FFmpegX and I am trying to make a DVD fit within a 4 GB image:
-I selected the VIDEO_TS folder (of the unencrypted source DVD) for my input
    -I selected a save location
-I selected hi-bitrate DVD from the Quick Presets menu
-I put in the duration of the movie and chose DVD 4GB for my media
-I selected Decode with mplayer from the options menu

When I finally select encode, I get the following output and the process seems to hang.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I was able to get it to work by using a different mplayer.

I had been using the mplayer from "lastbinary200603" with no success. When I switched to the mplayer that came with mencode in "stablebinaries", the problems went away.

My guess is the new version of mplayer has changed some of the switches and options.

  3. The lastbinary.sit package has been updated on june 20 with a new version incompatible with ffmpegX 0.0.7c.

I'll make ffmpegX work with that version when it will be stable, as the current one has still some bugs.

So for now, the stablest versions to use are the following:

    - mencoder: version dev-CVS-030226 (from stablebinaries.sit)
    - mplayer: version dev-CVS-030316-14:10-3.1. The problem is that this version is no more longer on sf. I'll ask them to re-host it as soon as possible. In the meantime, use the version in stablebinaries.sit.

You can also use the program DVD2OneX (www.dvd2one.com) for making ur movie smaller. This will take way less time than with ffmpegX I think and it is also a bit easier (no offense major :P)

  5. To shrink a VIDEO_TS folder dvd2oneX is indeed the best solution around.

Thanks for the advice regarding DVD2oneX. The trial version is limited to 30 minutes of video and the full version is a bit overpriced. That's why I decided to do it the more "difficult" way. In the process I learned a lot about FFmpegX, ran into the incompatibility with mplayer, and had a good time.

Thanks again. PS I ran into a segmentation fault using ifogen (I will start another thread for that)
