  1. Couple of questions: (1) Which do most standalone DVD players play, mp2 or ac3. (2) Which does a playstation 2 support (thats what I usually use) (3) I found that Ulead DVD MovieFActory doesnt support ac3, so if someone tells me that ac3 is most supported, please be kind and give a newbie a DVD authoring program to use. Thanx in advance

  2. Click to the left under 'what is DVDR'. The NTSC DVD standard only allows for PCM (uncompressed wav) or ac3 audio. However, most players can play mp2 audio as well (it's standard/supported by PAL players).

The PSX2 is very spotty when it comes to play DVDs or DVDRs. The media and how you burn it makes a difference, as does the PSX2 model.

I don't use Ulead and find it odd that it doesn't accept ac3 streams (remember most authoring programs DO NOT encode just author). But DVD Lab and several others do (see the authoring guides to the left).

  3. Thanks a lot....but yeah, this is what it says when I try to author "[C:\My Documents\My DVDs\Last(step6).mpg] contains AC-3 audio tracks. DVD MovieFactory does not support this audio format. Please convert the audio first to a compatible format."

Actually, if you just check the box that says "Do not display this message" (or something like that), it will let you go ahead and use the mpg with AC-3 sound anyway. You won't be able to hear it while working in DMF2, but it *will* be there on your finished DVD-R disc.

Note it will only work with mpg program streams that have AC-3 sound included. DMF2 will *not* accept elementary "whatever.ac3" sound-only files.
