  1. I'm about to convert a AVI file to mpeg2 using TMPGEnc Plus 2.5.

When I open the avi file in Dub ver. 1.5.1 I get the message
"Dub has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source AVI file and will rewrite the audio header with standard CBR values during prosseing for better compabillity This may untroduce up to 13743 ms of skew from the video stream. If this is unacceptable, decompress the "entire" audio stream to an uncompressed WAV file and recompress with a constand bitrate enconder (bitrate: 136.2 +- 19.2 kbpps)".

Yepp a lot of information for an newbie ... How do I do this and with which tools ..

I did try to save the uncompressed audio WAV file using DUB ( Direct stream mode and no compression ") and then load the wav file and avi file into TMPGEnc Plus 2.5, with the settings:
    Rate control mode: CBR 2206
All other is default except the video resolution.

I tried VBR (2pass) in TMPGEnc Plus 2.5 but I got a lot of error messages
    so I used CBR...

But when i played the SVCD on my DVD player the sound was badly out of synch

    Any suggestions ... ?? ?

    grateful for any help.....

  2. Load your film into virtual dub. Click on "audio" then choose "full processing mode." Click on film and choose "save wav." When the new drop down box appears give your soon to be created file a name. Virtual dub will extract the audio as a wav file. When it is done, click on audio and choose "no audio." Click on video and choose "direct stream copy." Then click on file and choose "save as avi." Give your new file a name. Virtual dub will save the video as an avi without the audio. You will now have 3 files, the original avi, an avi without an audio, and a wav (audio) file. You can load the new audioless avi file into TMPG as the video selection, and the wav file as the audio selection. If you want to frameserve, when you load the file choose the new audioless avi file you created. Then click on audio, and choose "wav audio." Navigate to the wav file you created and load it. Start frameserving.

I don't think that Vdub will extract VBR-MP3 audio properly unless you use Vdub-mod, the MP3 enabled version. I use Goldwave for my audio extraction, just load in the avi then save. I have very few problems that way, it handles VBR-MP3 and AC3 as well. Like Laddydaddy says, use the wav file as your audio source.

  4. some good points here but some not needed, soz

ok heres what i have learnt to stop vdub displaying any errors

    1. decompress avi first (i can send ya prog), i NEVER get those errors after decompressing, its because vdub sometimes doesnt like the way the avi's audio is created

    2. use vdub to strip the sound to a wav file

    3. in tmpgenc use the decompressed file as the video and the wav file as the audio

never had a prob with these steps, no frame serving needed, no ac3 ripping/converting whatever needed

    and get superb results

but .....also to get best results requires a little working out of bitrates

i got a doc i can send ya, please email me and i will send you decompressor and doc
