I have one of the first PS2s that came out....bought it first day of release. My Model Version is SCPH-30001. Can I play a DVD-R or DVD+R in it if I make a back-up copy of one of my DVDs? Or do I need a modchip? If I need a modchip then do I need a non sodder or sodder one and what's the best brand? Eric

  2. From what I understand you don't need a mod chip to play DVD movies, only games. Some will playstations will play them, some won't. Also they can be picky when it comes to the brand of media. I know Ritek DVD-r work on some, but I don't know about all.

  3. I have a japanese and a first day release american PS2, they both play DVD+R discs, but not DVD+RW discs. I found that my XBOX does the same.

  6. "What type of media do I need to burn the game to?" Use nero dvdcopy thats all

    -R on Princos

No, you cannot backup xbox games directly, they are in Xfat format, you have to get a mod chip & ftp to your xbox & copy....a lot of work.

Best mod for a v1 is the neokey. I used it for years but no longer have that ps2 anymore. But i have the neokey cause it looks so cute.
